The only thing special about Cub fans is their numbers. Big Fanbase, so when something happens its a big deal to a lot of people

But the park has become special due to circumstances, i.e. all the other old parks except Fenway are gone, many teams have moved out of the inner cities. And that fact has made the team special. At least for a time. These things cycle. The Cub fanbase wasn't always bigger than anyone else's and it probably won't always be.

They may have ridden that old park as hard as they could. I get the feeling Ricketts came in with the idea not to change anything, just sit back and enjoy Good 'Ol Woody gettin' his brains beat in and let the cash roll in. He loved it. But then attendance began dropping. And he had his old man up his ass saying "I thought you said this motherfucker was foolproof!" So now, Wrigley isn't the sacred cow anymore. Ricketts probably still likes it just the way it is but economic realities and Big Daddy are going to make that impossible.

And yet, you're the only Cub fan I know not buying into it.

The ballpark WILL be changing. Part of an agreement between Rahm Emanuel and Ricketts that will help supply the team with needed funds to update and improve the ballpark is the relaxing of the landmark designation. It will allow among other things, for the Cubs to employ more in-park advertising. They already have plans for multiple signage locations in the Bleacher section of the ballpark. In addition a Jumbotron location has been selected as well. While some people may see it as a horrible mistake to allow these things, I think most people will enjoy the Jumbotron, with all the replays and additional information it will provide fans. I believe the additional signage will be an unfortunate addition that will detract from the appearance of the park, but in time I think most people will come to accept the fact IT'S THEIR BALLPARK, and they should be able to make money as they see fit with it.

Hitting minor league HR's do not impress me. It does however earn a trip to the majors.

LaHair did play 14 games in the OF last year, also played about 35% of the time in the minors in OF.

The Problem? Soriano owed $18M this year...then the McDonough Years kick in.
2013 $18M
2014 $18 M

$54 Mill is a ton to eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya, Brandon Wood proved minor league hr's don't mean shit but I would rather see him rake down there than do little to nothing and he at least has a .4OO average to go with it.

As this thread started, sometimes I am not sure this great minor league success is good for them.

It is just not going to happen at the ML level and I question how guys handle such a huge drop off in production.

Bring him up

I wouldn't bring him up yet BUT didn't his clock already start with Padres last year?

How does this all impact Brett Jackson and Anthony Rizzo, specifically? MLBTR put together a chart of top prospects who might see action this year, and looked at their specific service time situations. Jackson’s situation is simple enough – as a player with no service time, the Cubs would retain control of him through 2018 so long as they wait until late April to call him up, and they avoid him reaching Super Two status so long as they wait until late June to call him up. Jackson needs some more time in AAA anyway, so keeping him in the minor leagues until late June is not out of the question – indeed, Jackson’s first appearance may well come in late July if the Cubs trade someone in their outfield at the deadline.

Rizzo’s situation is slightly more complicated.

Because Rizzo was called up for a portion of 2011 by the Padres, he has accrued some Major League service time – 68 days, to be precise. For that reason, if the Cubs want to retain an “extra” year of control of Rizzo, they’ll have to wait until late June to call him up. If the Cubs want to prevent Rizzo from reaching Super Two status, they’d have to keep him down until late August. In other words, he’d have to be a mere September call-up. Few expect that will actually happen, though it is plausible if Bryan LaHair is healthy and productive.
