I know it's a meatball thing to say, but I'd bet about 2/3 of us could have stopped that goal. Even if just because we slipped on the ice and blocked it with our ass.

Remember when the Hawks had a competent goalie? They won the cup. The Bowman philosophy of going cheap on the goalie only works when you do it with a competent goalie.

I understand the angst toward Crawford for tonight's ending.....he's about 4th in line for blame:

1. Bad play in offensive end
2. Terrible, horrible, kiss-my-ass angle taken by Leddy. For god's sake, the game is on the line. Don't do that.
3. Ok, turnover. PHX is headinf back the other way. Breakaway. Game is on the FUCKING LINE!!!!! Tackle him. Slash him. Please, whatever it takes, dismember him.......makes sure there is a penalty shot, you absolutely should not, cannot allow that player to get on net clean.

He didn't get in clean on the net. Leddy caught up to him and prevented him from getting a shot off while also avoiding taking a penalty. He lost control of the puck 5 feet from the net and its momentum carried it 5 feet and then dribbled through Crawford's legs.


Leddy definitely fucked up at center ice. O'Donnel fucked up with a bad pinch. But, to say Crawford is anything but the biggest to blame is a joke. He let in one of the softest goals I've ever seen, and I'm not just talking NHL, I'm talking even in my men's leagues.

I was trying to explain to the GF that 95% of the time the UC crowd really blows at playoff games. Too many first timers going for the experience, assholes standing up while the pucks in play etc. She was watched the Philly/Pens game with me and was amazed how into it their fans are compared to ours last night.

As someone who has never watched more than one period of hockey at a time, is it normal for a team to plow through as many goalies in as little time as the Hawks have? Khabibulin, Huet, Niemi, Turco, Crawford- all in a span of roughly 3 years during which the team has been competitive and won a championship.

Similarly, each of these guys (with the exception of Turco) were in good standing with the fans for about a year each until they started sucking and their replacement became the new hero. Is it common for NHL players to bask in their glory before promptly crashing and burning in a shorter span of time than most MLBers run through a tin of dip?
