Byrd traded for Michael Bowden and a PTBNL. Bowden was a former first round draft pick out of Waubonsie Valley HS.

Byrd is worthless. The fact they got a warm body even one that was DFA is hard to believe. Bowden should go right in the bullpen.

Campana's already up but I'd much rather see Mather get some PT. Not that it really matters.

This move was one I had expected closer to the trade deadline, when the Cubs might be looking to bring Jackson up. But saving a bit more money and giving the playing time to guys that may be on the roster (even as subs) a couple years from now, is fine. Byrd was a very good team player and a guy who was probably a good example for younger players, but without the PED's he looks overmatched these days. Who's next?.....Dempster? Soto? Garza?

Even in Byrd's best season (all-star) with the Cubs, his power numbers (HR & RBI) were poor. If the lefty they got in this deal pans out its a huge win.
