i agree that the shark is not this good....the pitchers have the advantage early in the season more often than not...by july this guy should be exposed more....he had zero pressure coming out of the pen in mop up duty.

MJ needs to exit his booth, go down to the field and punch Marmol square in the dick.

RFDC, my point was, being a starter is vastly different than coming in out of the pen. Wouldn't you agree?

I'll bet Marmol has put on 30 lbs from 5 years ago.

It's not like Shark is a new pitcher though. He has started before, he spot started last year, he has thrown plenty out of the pen. These teams have scouting reports on him and most hitters have faced him a few times. I don't think the grace period exists for guys who have been around the league this much.

I guess the only hope is, he has actually learned how to pitch while still a member of the Cub and not somewhere else. This season is a 162 game evaluation, more to come.

I think working with someone other than towlie has helped him. He was awful before because he couldn't locate anything other than the heater and teams either walked or hit lasers off him because of that. I hope he can continue to locate and pitch well. I had written him off after 2 and a half years of being awful so to see this is quite amazing.

He looked good tonight. Anytime you have a guy throwing and locating at 95 who also has a slider and a splitter, he has a chance to be good. Let's hope he gains some consistency.

Mike Bowden is all over the place.

Get this guy and it's walk-off time in the bottom of the 9th.

Gained 20 or more pounds......LOST 5-7 MPH on the fastball. I wonder if Theo tried to trade Marmol this past winter, but found nobody willing to take on the contract??

I think he has pounded way to many beers in the past and his brain is a little slow. He sure hasn't shown an aptitude for strategy 101.

A great job going with that pitch. He had a great at bat last night that resulted in a walk, in the 9th inning. It was a 12 pitch at bat and fought off several tough pitches. The guy may keep Rizzo down on the farm a good deal longer than he might prefer.

LaHair can play the outfield.

I saw him play in the outfield last September....he was awful. He's not very good at 1st base either, but it's the position he is best suited for, lacking the DH in the N.L.

Then one of them is getting traded.

But I think you can hide him in left.

It would be hard for him to follow in the footsteps of the defensive prowess that has been Alfonso Soriano.

In all fairness, Soriano has been better in the field this season. He's a lot faster than LaHair and has a much better arm. Theo has stressed the idea of improving the defense, so I doubt this is a move they would consider. A trade to a team that needs a 1st baseman or DH is more likely. LaHair is not real young (I think 29) as well, so that has to be considered. Otherwise the choice of Rizzo over LaHair might be less of a certainty.
