Thoughts, questions, comments, criticisms, concerns?

I say he's a bust, starts less than 10 games for his career.

I don't get this. They could have traded down and still picked him up. Dumb. Not a good start to the new era.

Edit: wait, waaait!

New #Bears DE Shea McClellin ran the second-fastest 40 at the Combine, behind Bruce Irvin. He's also described as "country strong.

Not really. He has been on the rise. I read several mock drafts today that had him in the lower 1st round.

He wouldn't have made it passed the Patriots or Green Bay, one of those would have taken him for sure.

We'll see on the draft but I think the free agency period was a good start to the Emery era.

Notice who 2 of the CBS mock drafts have taking this guy.... Green Bay.

But everyone of them projected him as a 1st round guy

9 spots too early isn't too bad I guess.

Oh, nevermind. We didn't trade him. He's our guy. Sigh.

McClellin, who was far off most pundits’ radar three months ago, is now projected as a first-round pick. He appears in the first round of 25 of the 30 mock drafts compiled for the Idaho Statesman’s NFL Draft blog.

“The funny thing is if you talk with (NFL coaches), they already knew Shea,” said Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, who has met with many coaches during draft prep events. “Apparently, the TV people figured it out a few months later.”

“The most important thing in this league is finding guys who can get after the quarterback, and he can,” said ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., who projects the Green Bay Packers to take McClellin at No. 28. “… He played like a first-round pick during his career at Boise, he played like it at the Senior Bowl, and he tested like it (at the NFL Scouting Combine).”

McClellin is rated as high as the No. 14 prospect, by NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock. Most draft experts expect him to land with the Packers at No. 28 or the New England Patriots, who have pick Nos. 27 and 31.

McClellin’s value is enhanced by his position. He likely will play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defensive scheme in the NFL, a spot from which teams expect to generate a pass rush.

In today’s NFL, the premium positions are passers (quarterbacks), pass protectors (offensive tackles) and pass rushers.

Mayock expects a run on pass rushers beginning with the San Diego Chargers at No. 18.

“I’d bang the table for Shea McClellin from Boise,” he said. “… He’s going to fit into somebody’s 3-4 defense at the tail end of the first round and he’s going to be a 10-year starter.”

You would love him if the Packers took him, FF.

And it would have made sense for them, maybe.

The only logical conclusion I can come to at this point is that they think he can put on 15 lbs or more and add some strength. Or be some kind of hybrid LB/DE in the 4-3.

Certainly would follow conventional logic in a 3-4 scheme.

2 of them had him going #18.

I am not sure about this pick at all, but to go all meatball saying this guy is a 3rd or 4th round guy is just dumb.

Do pitchers throw fastballs too?

I'll give Emery the benefit of the doubt here. His resume says he knows drafts, so we will see. He has one of THE best ends to work opposite of...

He would have gone in the 1st...but not that high. The Packers were rumored to have put up all that interest in him as a smokescreen because they were concerned about his 4 documented concussions during his collegiate career. He was also projected to be a better fit in the 3-4.

Benefit of the doubt is fine. Still boggles the mind when they had very real needs at positions and they picked some kind of hybrid player.

Not according to Danny Mac.

Bowen's talking running him opposite Peppers in nickel. I say, we have too many holes to draft luxuries with our top pick.

I didn't think there'd be any way I'd be nonplussed by our first selection, yet here I am. Nonplussed. Oh, Bears.. you're so dependable.

I don't understand the pick, especially with DeCastro in your lap.

I agree. There were a half dozen guys I thought would work. He wasn't one of them.
