Washington would fall into that category. They have an even better record than the Sox.

Boston is one of the best organizations in baseball - I think that is a pretty widely held belief. Check their record.
Do you think the White Sox are "The Shittiest Organization in baseball"? It's fine if you do, but you may be on the list of people who should be embarrassed with cpguy if things continue.

I'm going to say that the White Sox would not be in consideration for this award.

When talking about the quality of an organization as a whole, in addition to on field success I'd probably consider things like:
-minor league system
-front office leadership
-on field leadership
-long term marketing/exposure
-financial stability and sustainability
-attendance and TV ratings/contracts

Or you could just pick an opportune time in the standings after 9.8% of the season and dig up a dead thread to call somebody out and pretend like you proved something.

Because teams like the Oakland A's have all sorts of sustainability, attendance, and on field leaders.

Throw all that in there, still not even close to the worst. Not saying they are top 3 or 4, but nowhere near as bad as the so called experts would have you believe.

Is this a "yes" or a "no" to my question?

No, Not the shittiest.

Amazingly, I am able to answer that without using their current record/standings as my only example.

So what is your point then?

Oh, I can too. In fact, I don't even know where I cited current record/standings at all.

Good points. That's why I'd put them somewhere in the bottom half of the league for sure, near the Sox.

True. You didn't "cite" anything at all. Actually, not one reason was given for digging up a dead thread and calling somebody out about the question they asked.

Thank you for pointing that out!

And you also have teams like Tampa, who despite the bigtime success and talent they have had over the last couple of years, would probably be near where the Sox are because of their awful stadium and poor attendance.

Please read my first post in this thread. You'll get the context then.

Anyways, sorry for responding to a thread 5 weeks after the last post. Is this some message board breach of etiquette?

Agree. Not one of the best organizations in MLB.

They should just cancel the season now and give the Sox a share of the division. I don't need to see more than 9.8% of the games in any season to know who is good and who is bad.

But if the Sox were 5-11, you'd be sure they were shit, right?

I'm more confident that they'll end up a bad team overall (even though they are at 10-6 now) than a good team. But again, it's only been 9.8% of the season. Maybe they will surprise.

You must be sure that the Washington Nationals are the best team in the NL? How about just in the NL East?
You must be sure that the Angels are the worst team in the AL West?
It's all the same.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the Sox, Nats, and Angels won't finish the season where they are in the standings right now.

Well, spanky, it isn't exactly going out on a limb to suggest that the standings might be different after 100% of the games are played than they are now after 9.8% have been played, but that isn't really the point. You've made up your mind as to who is good and who isn't and anything that occurs on the field of play will be a "surprise" rather than evidence of your only marginally educated opinion. It's the bernstein methodology in full effect. An attempt at putting an objective cloak on an entirely subjective view. I have little doubt that if the Sox were 5-11, you would find that to be evidence of how poor they were, yet when they are 10-6 you insist that it isn't evidence of anything. And you see, I'm not suggesting that it is. I'm merely pointing out the flaws in your argument.

You're more closely describing what you are doing. I'm saying wait and see as far as the onfield product. The other things you don;t have to wait for, you can judge them now.

I'm not judging anything based on 16 games. I'm judging the White Sox based on the guys who are on the team and their overall past performances rather than a single season loaded with anomalies. The fact that they've started 10-6 isn't the surprise. The surprise was last season when the same basic team couldn't play .500. I don't think they're going to play .625 baseball for the season, but I don't think they're "bad at baseball" either.

When does a team become a good team simply based on their performance rather than a bad team that just happened to perform well? Frankly, calling a team that is performing well "bad" just seems like a guy who is refusing to be wrong.

This past week is closer to what I expected to see the entire month of April. But hey, at least they didn't tank the whole month. I'm Chris Rongey.

Yours is no doubt saltier too.

I know they had a 4 game win streak, but they have 5-7 over their last 12 games overall, with some of those losses to Baltimore and 1 to the A's that were pretty ugly. Hopefully they can turn it around this weekend because Boston's pitching is atrocious.

Judging by the way they completely botched the Sale situation from a PR standpoint, yes.
