Thanks for the heads up. Now I will make sure to get the hell out of Naperville at that time.

Didn't ZZ Top play their farewell tour about 5 years ago? This is a major step down from that....

It's the new ZZ Top. Just the original drummer plus two new front (wo)men.

Loud noises carry far.

99% of the time, the bands who play events like Ribfest and state fairs are essentially conceding that their relevance is a thing of the past. Some bands are capable of doing a farewell tour whenever they feel ready to hang it up and are all but assured that they'll play for large crowds. They go out on their own terms.
Others frantically cling to any shred of attention they can get and die a slow, painful to watch death. It's sad. If you have a pet that's old, suffering, and won't recover, putting them to sleep is thought of as a humane thing not only for the animal, but also the owner who can't bear to see his/her animal in such a state. But as we can plainly see, it doesn't always end that way.

Do you guys have any idea what ZZ Top is getting paid to play at Ribfest????

About 13 years ago Cheap Trick got $25k a night to play the Burlington Chocolate Festival...

Yeah, they're getting a shitload of money to be there.

A friend of mine played in a cover band that opened for Sammy Hagar at Ribfest last year. I know ZZ Top are definitely going home with a ton of cash from what they told me, I just don't understand why anyone ever goes to these town festivals. I've never seen the appeal myself. Once a band hits that circuit, it's really depressing.

I've been to Ribfest once....meh.
Spent most of the time eating and playing carnival games instead of watching the bands. I don't really like the outdoor festival style concert setting thing anyway. The crowd, heat, sitting on grass...no thanks.

Give me the ability to move around like Summerfest or put me in the Pavilion seats.

There are some decent acts though, DB. And they can also make for a relatively cheap night out. I know its crowded its not the best venue, but you can still see some entertaining shows. I've seen Ted Nugent at Ridgefest a couple of different times, and its only $10. Politics aside, he still puts on a pretty goddam good show. In recent years they have had the Cars, Cheap Trick, Lt Dan Band there. Nothing that is gonna make you clear your calendar for sure. I agree that for some bands its depressing to see, esepcially if there is a significant lineup change. Still though there are some good acts/bands going around at these places.

Just in case people couldn't get enough suck from watching the 2012 Cubs. Not sure whats worse: The outfield play over the course of one season, or Bruce Springsteen performing in the outfield over the course of two days (6 hours?). I'd rather deal with the OF play 10 times out of 10.

Aerosmith @ United Center 6/22
Aerosmith @ Summer Fest 7/7
Pearl Jam @ Pensacola Beach, FL sometime between Sept. 21-23. Ben Folds Five, Foo Fighters and Wallflowers are also playing this but it'd be just as well if they weren't.
Looks like they added 9/22 in Atlanta today. Might be a little easier to get to.

 - you're pissing on Springsteen, then bragging about two Aerosmith shows??? REALLY???

I realize that presently, Aerosmith is a far cry from what they were from their self titled debut through Night In The Ruts, but material from that time span makes up the majority of their setlists to this day. For the most part, they nail it. It doesn't matter to me if Springsteen incorporates what people would consider his classic material into setlists and also plays it spot on, because I never liked it to begin with. His voice pisses me off, and as I mentioned earlier, anything he's ever written and recorded can be found in the dictionary under cliche. I would rather listen to scissors rupturing my eardrum than to his obscenely grandiose presentation of dull material.
I do admire his ability to tell the same tired story on 17 different studio albums. His fans are idiots too. If he wrote a song about taking a shit and eating it you can rest assured that his fans will praise the simple yet effectively beautiful way he tells a story. Profound.

going to see a band named Rah Rah on 5/31 at the Double Door "Dirt Room" for $5.
I guess they put bands in the basement bar now? Must've gotten rid of the pool tables...
