I know he frequently sat in with Ed Farmer & Darrin Jackson on The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network broadcasts, and seemed to bring the current Sox good luck when he joined the guys.

To salute Moose, all the Sox players should get crewcuts.

I bet there will be a moment of silence before tonight's second of four between the two kinds of Sox.

Moose was a good guy. Local boy from Weber High School, I think. He used to own- or at least lend his name to- a bar right across Laramie from Hawthorne Racecourse. It was named Call Me Moose. I talked baseball with him in there several times. He was a regular in the Windy City Room at Maywood Park where he would bet the thoroughbreds. My friend Jerry, who is also dead, grew up in the same Northwest side neighborhood as Moose and hung out in the same parks, Kelvyn, Hermosa, Palmer Square, although Jerry was about ten years younger than Moose. One time Jerry and I were at Maywood and Jerry decided to fuck with Moose. He said, "Watch this" and walked over to Moose's table. He said, "Hey, Moose, who made the last out in the '57 World Series?" Moose, looked up from his Racing Form and said, "Yeah, yeah, I hit it to Eddie Matthews." Jerry walked back over to me and said, "I know as much about that fucker as he knows about himself."

You would need a lawnmower to give that gigantic melon a crewcut.

I know the Sox love to celebrate this guy as 'one of their own" but he was a Yankee!

You play 9 years for a team, 5 time All Star and win a World Series or 2 with that team, you are a Yankee! Unless you outperfom what you did there, which would be tough.

Even if you google Moose Skowron, first title is "Yankee Stalwart"

Yes, I know he was from Chicago, played for the Sox in his twilights years and was the Sox senior promo guy, but come on, this guy was a Yankee!

Yes, he was a Yankee. He also won a World Series as a Dodger, but I think he may have even sold that ring. That didn't mean much to him. He didn't consider himself a National Leaguer. Definitely a Yankee.

I guess it's safe to assume that Moose liked ice cream based on the stories reminisced about on the air. I was unsure about this the first 50 times the story was told on the air, but now that Rongey retold it for the 51st time I'm convinced.

Redd Kerr never played for the Bulls you know. Harry Caray called games for the Cards longer than he did the Cubs.

He was a Sox guy for the last 30+ years. Moose as the person is what is a Sox legend, not Moose the player.

Good guy. If you got into a conversation, he wanted to talk to you much longer than you wanted to talk to him. Buried out of QAS, the breeding ground of champions.
