HBO did well with the birth of the shadow abomination. A very creepy vibe to the whole scene that mirrored what I imagined from the books with Davos recoiling in terrror.

The Joffrey S&M part was a bit much. Hasn't it already been established to the nth degree that he is a sick fuck? They put a long scene like that in that could have been used to tell another character's back story a bit more. I enjoy the gratuitous naked whores but so much gets left out of the books I feel it was a wasted five minutes.

Agree.

The group I was watching it with thought the same. The scene would have been more pertinent and useful many episodes ago when we weren't really sure if Joffery was really this monster, TV wise, at least. At this point it was just kind of redundant, especially after the Sansa scene.

The actress's name is Oona Castilla Chaplin. This says that, not only is she the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, but that they changed things in the story arc:

In 2011, she was cast in the second season of the HBO fantasy TV series Game of Thrones[13] as the healer Talisa, a character who takes the role of Jeyne Westerling in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels which the series adapts.

So much for that hope.

I read through all of the plot summaries on Wiki. I'm good.
Should have done that before the start of last season.

Do you guys know how big the map is from north to south? I've been wondering as I read the books and watch the show just how big the kingdom is? Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Winterfall to King's Landing? Or from the Wall to the southern tip of Dorne?

Also, one thing that bothers me about this series is the lack of technological development. How many 1000s of years do you live in midevil times before some dumbass finally invents the printing press? Or figures out gun powder? How dumb are these fucking people?

I thought wildfire was more of a napalm type thingie.

And the 10 year winter is a nice excuse until you consider how the plague wiped out half of Europe yet that didn't stop them from pulling themselves out of the dark ages.

The "10 Year" Winter happens in cycles, combine that with constant wars and you don't have the a good recipe for sustained progress. In the books everything is burned during the war, everything. The crops, books, towns, villages and mass amounts of people. Brain power is at a premium and in short supply and so is a general education system. Think about the current War of the 5 Kings...mass death, no crops being planted, skilled peasants slaughtered, birth rates flatten AND motherfucking WINTER IS COMING.

Plus, the "Great Plague" was a singular event for Europe, as I mentioned above the winters are long and cataclysmic and happen in cycles....not just a few times over a thousand years.

And GoT is a fantasy series, the world in which it exists doesn't parallel ours or even come close. Comparisons to progress in each don't wash.

And Valaryia was quite advanced. They just tempted fate and were destroyed by the gods.

Thinking of Sarah Palin as Daenerys makes me sad.

The Eddard Stark/Al Gore one was awesome.

SPOILERS:

DON'T READ BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOKS>>>>

Just got to the part where Arya leads the takeover of Harenhall. I'm confused why she didn't tell the northern prisoners who she was. They work for her brother, why wouldn't she tell them?

I dont remember her exact reasoning. I think at that point she had been through so much trama for a young girl that she didnt trust anyone and just wanted to get home to her Mother on her own.

Episode 5 was excellent. A breath of fresh air, giving time for character development and table setting. Didn't feel rushed or forced at all.

Renly's death was about what I expected, I'm glad they got it out of the way. The Brienne/Cat portion got as much screentime as it deserved. Nice to see the weirdness of the pyromancers and have that come into play. It appears they've totally dropped Meera and Jojen, which is fine with me.

i think the weakest link in the series is dany's story. it just clunks along...not a whole lot happens after khal drogo dies for a while. there's a lot of positioning and deliberation. there are a couple things upcoming that are interesting but then by "dance" it just drags the story down.

this episode seeemed a bit slow but it's mid-season so i guess that's expected.

I have Episodes 1-5 of Season 2 of Game of Thrones. I'm going to delete the first 3 episodes by the end of this week, but if you'd like links to stream/download those episodes, send me a PM and I'll send you links.

Dany's story through the entire 2nd book is so boring. I nearly slept through those chapters.

Loved the episode last night.

Agree with Q. on his spoiler.

And agree with Dany's story. It's just there.

Jon Snow going off to see Mance. That should be great fun.

Theon got himself an idea.

Arya got the first of her three. Valar Morghulis.
