and it was a classic episode where Lionel was getting married and the Jeffersons threw an engagement party. They had never met Jenny's parents, the Willises, who, as everyone knows, were a mixed race couple. Anyway, I was blown away to see that the couple I had known to love as the Willises on The Jeffersons were not the original Willises.

I was a young SHARK when "All in the Family" made its network TV debut in 1971 on CBS. I was a bit too young to realize how groundbreaking the sitcom really was until I've gotten older and have seen countless reruns over the years. Creator/executive producer Norman Lear wasn't afraid to deal with sensitive subjects on the show that others wouldn't touch back then. Racism, interracial marriage, prejudice, politics...You name it, the subject matter was powerful. "All in the Family" was a sitcom ahead of its time.

The guy who played him, Rob Reiner, is still very much alive.

And would never see the light of day in today's PC climate. I'm indifferent about the show as I too was a kid when it was on, but I've seen enough reruns in my yoot and read about TV history to know there was subject matter that would make TV executives cringe at the thought of airing it in 2012.

One of my favorite scenes in TV history. When George Jefferson meets Tom Willis (the first actor):

Bunker: "Hey Jefferson, you're going to love this!"

Lionel: "Ma, Pa, this is Jenny's parent's Mr. and Mrs. Willis."

Willis: "Mr. Jefferson. Mrs. Jefferson."

Jefferson: "You're White!"

Willis: "And you're Black."

Bunker: "It's a kick in the head isn't it."

. . .

Jefferson: "Think, son, think. What about your children? What are they going to be?"

Lionel: "Boys and girls I hope!"

A few of us were under the impression that Stivic was portrayed by Bagels. But we also thought Juggs was Hoffy.

After the election of Richard E. Nixon, there, this was the best day of my life.

Wonder if Seth McFarlane would ever take a shot at an animated All in the Family...I know he is doing The Flintstones next season. I guess Family Guy is kind of like All in the Family.

So who is Juggs then? Gotta be Panther or biggie, no? Or someone from "The Crew"?
