For those reading the books along with the show.

Discuss.

About 700 pages into Book 3. Just...all sorts of crazy shit going on.

Also please try to use spoiler tags when applicable. I've had like 8 things spoiled for me by the show thread, lol.

yeah, please mark spoilers in here and label them according to what book they come from for those of us that are reading the books, but haven't finished them yet. I'm about 100 pages from the end of book 2.

I got a free Nook at a golf outing last summer and I am using it to read these books...let me tell you, reading these books on a Nook is AMAZING. There's been so many cliff hanger moments and because I have it on an ebook I can't just skim ahead and see if so and so is still alive. I never know what to expect from one chapter to the next.....

SPOILER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When it was implied that Theon killed Bran and Rickon and mounted their heads on the wall I kept saying to myself there's no way he really killed them, but because I am on an ebook I couldn't glance ahead and find out...had to sit there and read and read and read and couldn't put it down till my suspicions were confirmed.

Its also cool because I'm always curious who the next chapter is going to be about and this way its a surprise every time.

i was ready to kill martin myself when i read that part and like you, was like...no he wouldn't do that. has to be a front. so i did flip ahead to find out it was just 2 random kids and breathed again.

the only reason why you could believe it is because he kills starks off like he loves it.

Just picked this up last night and have been watching it along with season 1. Really enjoying the writing so far, but the guy has thousands of pages and I wish he wouldnt throw an entire planet of characters at me in the first thirty pages.

Just about finished with Storm of Swords, and I haven't read ANY of this thread, lol. I'll post more when I'm caught up, which should be in...*sigh* like two or three months.

I understand the feeling...but that is partly why the series is so great. For me...it adds realism to the world...and defines the vastness of the world. So many series concentrate on just a few characters...you miss out on what else is happening in the story.

I dont mind the amount of characters, just the pace at first was surprising.

Just finished "A Clash of Kings". Thought it was just OK. First book was better. Moving on to the third installment in the next day or so (eyes need a rest).

I tell all my friends who've seen the first season of GoT to start on Clash of Kings and just get it overwith. It's a HUGE book that features a ton of character development but almost no action until the final 100 pages.

I can't say enough about how tremendous Storm of Swords was. Fantastic book.

Feast For Crows arrives in the mail today, I'll read a solid chunk of that bitch before bed.

Don't be discouraged. Plow through. It's the worst of the five imo.

But still good.

I heard the 4th book is the worst.

I enjoyed the 2nd book, but there were definitely some strories that were better than others and some that were downright pointless. The whole Daenarys story in book 2 is about as useless as it gets. hey lets walk a million miles in the desert, get to a cool city, do nothing, and then get a boat and head back to the exact place we strated from.

On the other hand, the tyrion story line is great. And I really like the Arya story. Jon snow is ok till it picks up at the end. Bran is pretty boring till the end. Catelyn same thing. Theon's story is good.

So Crows & Dragons happen at the exact same time, but they split the books between certain characters? What the fuck?

*grumble* Stupid.

Any book without Tyrion is by automatically the worst of the bunch.

The best part about AFFC is Qyburn. Such a sadistic necromancer of a fuck who has the appearance of a kindly grandfather. The maesters and the Citadel in Oldtown are one of those things Martin teases you with and you always want to know more information about. Like the Doom of Valyria, Jon Snow's parentage, the Tower of Joy, Coldhands, etc.

Yeah the catfighting was entertaining. But didn't the endless Brienne quest drag for you? "I'm looking for a maid of three and ten." I did like her fight with Rorge and Biter though.
