They've made it pretty clear that Batman, in one fashion or another, ends in this movie. I don't know if Batman will necessarily die, but here's what my thinking is for the plot:
- Wayne falls for Selina Kyle only to realize she's Catwoman
- Bane, secure in the knowledge of Batman's identity, attacks Bruce in Wayne Manor, beats him within an inch of his life and leaves him to die.
- Discouraged and feeling as though he's finally been defeated, Bruce is advised by Alfred to return to the Orient to revisit his training and remember his purpose
- Gotham becomes a war zone, martial law is declared and the local/national authorities battle Bane over a period of years
- Catwoman takes advantage of the civil disorder to rob citizens blind
- With Wayne gone and criminals taking over the city, the public becomes aware of Batman's true identity
- JG-L is sent by Gordon to unearth Bruce Wayne to save the city
- As Bruce returns, Gordon is fatally attacked by Bane. His dying wish to Bruce is for Batman to return and save Gotham
- Batman aligns with Catwoman for the greater good and they jointly kill Bane, despite the city lying virtually in ruins
- The final battle with Bane leaves the survival of Batman and Bane in question, and Wayne is ultimately declared dead, and Batman with him
- Prior to credit roll, it is hinted that Batman still lives, but as to who wears the cape and cowl is a mystery_________________
