Interview wasn't that great. Typical "man, that was cool - we are really gelling as teammates" garbage. Not a good Speed interview.

Great - now even the great Scott Speed has been NASCAR-ized. Did he mention Red Bull and Toyota 14 times in the first 2 sentences? If so, I'm hitting hitting the mute next time he's on.

CHAMPIONSHIP!!! He's ready for Daytona!

It's a ridiculous amount of money for a guy that doesn't have his own Western town in the backyard, broheim.

Quote:
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in one hell of a giving mood last night -- dude bought drinks for more than 800 people who walked into his North Carolina bar.

It all went down at the Whisky River bar in Charlotte -- which is owned by the NASCAR stud. We're told Dale decided to pick up the tab for every drink ordered in his place between 8-9pm.

Bartender Shawn Southern -- who was also on VH1's "Tool Academy" -- says the bill was "a ridiculous amount of money" ... but Dale made sure to treat the staff to a "very generous" tip.

Are you going to enter my contest next year? I had to give my money to doug. DOUG!!

I'll bet he doesn't even know who Willy T. Ribbs is. Hell, Reason was even in it!

Wait, you didn't actually give away white lightnin'?!? Just some of your leftover foldin' money? Well I never...

But, in fairness the young Nas doesn't know who Willy Ribbs is  . Alternatively, Reason probably doesn't remember what he was in at all.

The only way I could be in your pagent is just to bitch and moan that Cale would've killt 'em all, or that the boys from Hueytown woulda laughed at them, or that (the real)Junior would have dusted them all off in the turn, or that Dale's daddy & granddaddy....

And then no one else would've gotten it....

Ahhh, you're just making excuses. There's some guys in there that know what they're doing, not me, but some guys - even doug. DOUG!!

It was pretty fun, if I don't say so.

OK, but the last time I watched the 500 with a group dedicated to actually watching the race, the HANS device was made mandatory as a result. :(

Funny you should say that because that was the first time I really paid attention to anything NASCAR and I can remember it for two reasons -

1) It was my birthday
2) I heard Dan McNeil break the news to me that he had actually died while I was sitting in an Ace Hardware parking lot when Dan was at the Worldwide Leader in Bristol and I was pretty shocked to hear that Mac had landed at ESPN.

Junior - 11th on SI's Fortunate 50, banking $26 million last year, just behind Goober's $27 mil.

Jr - $4 million in race winnings / $22 mil in endorsements

Some guy's blog wrote:
He may have had his struggles on the track, not winning a Sprint Cup Series race in 2009, but Dale Earnhardt Junior was still able to smile all the way to bank last year.

According to Sport’s Illustrated’s Fortunate 50, a list of the 50 highest paid American sports stars, NASCAR’s most popular driver banked $26,611,290 in 2009. That’s $4,611,290 from salary and winnings and $22,000,000 from endorsements.

Those earnings were just below the NFL’s Peyton Manning who was 10 with $27,000,000 and just above NBA player Dwayne Wade at $26,410,581.

Earnhardt Junior, who was voted the sports most popular driver for the sixth straight year last year was 11th on the list in 2008.

The only other NASCAR driver to make the list was Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt’s teammate at Hendrick Motorsports. Gordon fell form 14th in 2008 to 21st in 2009 with combined earnings of $20,944,140.

Quietly having a real nice start to the season. With today's fourth place finish he is now in 3rd place in the points.

Yes. Junior is an average driver with below average intelligence. His pit road mistakes are unforgivable in the big leagues.

I know that you follow racing. Do you really think Junior is a great driver & that he is smarter than his pit road gaffes indicate? He is what he is...an over-rated driver who makes mistakes that 90% of the drivers in Nascar don't ever make.

I never said he was a great driver. But I do believe he is an above average driver. His # of wins point to that as well.

Sure he makes his number of mistakes, but just about every driver out there makes em. It is part of racing. I do not think that you can base the man's intelligence on that stuff.

I like Dale Earnhardt Junior a lot. I root for him to win every week. But what began as a promising career for Junior has turned into huge disappointment. He has won one race in the 4 years that he has been with Hendrick Motorsports. Ironically, Juniors decline began the year after the Car of Tomorrow was introduced, which was developed in part as a result of Dales Sr's death in order to improve car safety.
Hendrick has tried everything to get Junior on track & keep him there but nothing has worked. I wonder how much more patience Hendrick will have waiting for Junior to mature & win races & stop making mental mistakes?

This is why Jr is great to follow. He'll just say what he thinks and he's 100% right -

NASCAR.com wrote:
"I'm hoping this kind of racing goes away fast so we don't have to talk about this no more," Earnhardt said Saturday before going out to qualify for Sunday's Aaron's 499. "This is a mess. This is a bunch of crap. Y'all don't look at it and think it's strange?

But "just finding somebody to push and just push them" isn't the way Junior likes to race at Talladega. He'd like to see two-car packs wind up being a fad like Pet Rocks and mood rings.

"I think everybody thinks it's cool now because it's new and it's neat," Earnhardt said. "Everybody's getting a big kick out of it. But over the long haul, man, it's not the best. It's not as good as 40 dudes in one pack, racing like hell, trying to get to the front. It's nowhere near as good as that.

"Give me that any day over this. Over the long haul, people will realize that. Once the newness of this wears off, how interesting this is and how unique it is, I think people will start to see."

"You remember when we would go out to practice? Even the few fans that were here on Thursday and Friday, that's pretty interesting to them, to watch guys out there practicing," Earnhardt said. "And how interesting was practice [Friday]?

"I think NASCAR's doing what they think is right, and I don't want to say what they're doing is wrong, because I don't know. I don't know whether I'm right or wrong. I just know what I prefer and what I like. It's my opinion. I'm entitled to one. Everybody's got one. I don't know what's right or wrong."

Junior has a little Terry Bevington in him.

He is having a hell of a year and you have to believe that victory is not to far behind. Extremely consisitent on all kinds of tracks and he and his pit crew haven't found a way to fuck it up yet. Hail, Hail to Dale.

I like how reents started this thread saying he had a question about Jr, proceeds to ask 3 or 4 different questions in his initial posts, but didn't use a single question mark.

I know but the look on Stewart's face when Robby turned around and grabbed him was priceless.

Not quite as good as when Jeff Gordon shoved Kenseth at Bristol. That was probably the funniest.
