Willis Reed had no bearing on that game. It was Clyde Frazier's insane stat line.

I saw the game for the first time in its entirety in 2009 when NBA TV replayed it. It cleared up a huge NBA fallacy.

He scored two baskets. What's the fallacy? I think the point is he gave them a spark. I'm guessing every guy on that team would say that him coming out and hitting those shots pumped them up.

It's just that all my life, whenever the NBA shows those clips they make it look like Willis Reed's shots had a bearing on the game. They didn't. The Knicks murdered the Lakers and Walt Frazier had one of the greatest Finals performances of all time.

Yeah, It is known as the Willis Reed game, but all he did was score the four points. I think the first four. He didn't play a whole lot. I mean, he had a torn muscle. But just imagine if the Bulls were somehow tied at 3 apiece with the Heat in the conference finals and the Bulls were being introduced and the last guy was... FROM CHICAGO, A 6'2" POINT GUARD, DERRICK ROSE!!!!!!!!!!! And then he hobbled down court and hit a quick three. Miami might not recover and the United Center might be shaken apart.

These guys are such cynical D-Bags - regarding everything! Terry stutters, rambles and mutters his agreement with everything Bernstein....does this guy have a thought of his own?? Bernstein has become a caricature of himself and ridicules anything not registered or acknowledged along his median of perception....offer condolences to someone you don't personally know who's died: bad; cheer for a team that he feels won't win the championship: stupid and meatball; like anything about Penn-State or Pennsylvania: pedophile.

Reign it in boys, this is getting a little out of hand.

That's a whole new level of dumb right there.

Shall I coin the phrase, "Beardown-Bad" in reference to anything that's hideously attrocious and un-amusing?

I learned this by watching GoodFellas. They shot Tommy in the face so his ma couldn't have an open casket funeral.

I believe it was Kurt Cobain that I was reading about- but he took a shotgun to the dome, and the electrician who discovered him reported a small amount of blood and not much else. None of the trauma you would assume would be present from a shotgun blast at close range was visible. Must have used a glorified version of a pellet gun.

Actually, I was referring to him saying he got hit by pitches on purpose. It's an absolute fuckin' lie. I played Little League and I've been around enough teams that my friends' kids played on. I've NEVER seen ANY kid try to get hit on purpose. The vast majority are terrified of the ball. Especially when they get to the 12/13s and guys start throwing a little harder. And when they do get hit, they cry like little babies, gripping their body parts as if amputation may be required. bernstein is a liar. I'm sure there are enough guys here who played. What stopped all of us was failing at hitting at some level. And why did we fail? Well, fear played its part. There are big leaguers that step in the bucket, shy from the ball. They've been good enough to overcome that, but there's fear. Don't tell me some fuckin' pre-teen bernstein walked into pitches to get on base. It's utter bullshit.

From what I've read in the past, that'd be redundant. At least SiD, for example, has a (very) occasional interesting post.

Of course it's bullshit. Bernstein is and always has been a gutless munchkin. He's basically a lying sack of shit and a miserable human being, not just on the radio. You guys get fooled thinking he's brilliant. He's nothing more than a silver spooner with an English degree. He played nothing, really knows no one and is just a plain old bullshitter with a good vocabulary.

SID,

And every other listener. He is not performing brain surgery on you, he is just arguing a point of view on SPORTS which you may or may not agree with. Either way if you do not like the opinion he is spouting, turn the dial. The main shtick of B&B is that they are snarky and not your comforting I feel your pain type of sports radio, which I happen to like. When it gets out of hand I don't listen. I know it must be hard to turn away when your dander is up, but it is only sports, DUH!

Today's show was pretty non-stellar. It featured some of the lower-end commentary that usually entails Bernstein Concussion Talk. Badgering (admittedly vague and semi-retarded callers) gets tiresome, but not nearly as tiresome as the sighing defeated murmur Berns does as he interrupts callers with corrections before utterly dismissing all of sports and sports fandom as pure stupidity.

It's not shaping up to be a very entertaining summer, but hopefully once Bulls season mercifully ends they'll cheer the fuck up.

Edit: I enjoyed Terry's rant on hazing towards the end of the show. Always refreshing to hear him actually have a thought and express himself rather than sputtering and moaning in the background.

I always hate to refute me esteemed colleague Joe but, I was coaching last night and one of my players LEANED HIS HEAD into a pitch...for the third time this year. The umpire warned us he didn't make an effort to avoid. It was a female ump so I reminded her it was ball four anyway.

Really? I've absolutely never seen such a thing. I helped my friend coach a team in Norridge about ten or twelve years ago and there were some really good players. They were all afraid of getting hit to one degree or another. And when they did, they usually wept. I know they go up to the plate dressed like Darth Vader these days, but what kind of loon sticks his head in front of a baseball?

When I played Little League, I would not avoid getting hit on occasion. If it was against a particular weak pitcher, and he threw one inside, I would just stand my ground. I was Rickey Henderson back in my day. Get to first by any means necessary, steal 2nd, steal 3rd, score on groundout/sac fly. Douchey-run.

And here I thought Nate Silver invented the idea that getting on base was good.

I was Tony Campana 15-20 years before anyone heard of him.
