If you watch the networks of NBC Universal in the coming weeks, you're going to be bombarded by promos for the upcoming London Summer Olympic games. While we're still about 2 months away from the Opening Ceremonies, NBC Sports has announced their assignments for the games of the 30th Summer Olympiad. Have your pencil & scorecard ready.

NBC Sports' mainstay Bob Costas will be the primary host of the network's London Olympic coverage for the 10th time in his career. Costas was initially late night host for the network's Summer Olympic coverage in 1988 when the games were held in Seoul. He has hosted NBC's primetime coverage each of the last 8 Summer Olympics. The London games will be Bob's 9th.

After hosting daytime coverage of the Winter Olympics 2 years ago in Vancouver for the first time in 22 years, "NFL Sunday Night Football" golden voice Al Michaels will serve as host of NBC's daytime coverage of the London Summer Olympics as well. He won't be the only daytime host of NBC's Summer Olympic coverage.

"Football Night in America" studio host & syndicated sports talk radio host Dan Patrick will also serve as a daytime host for NBC's Summer Olympic coverage for the very first time. Dan was an Olympic correspondent 2 years ago during the network's Winter Olympic coverage in Vancouver.

Back on NBC Olympic duty late nights is tennis analyst Mary Carillo. She'll not only serve as an Olympic correspondent, but she'll also host late night coverage for the third time. It's the 11th Olympics Carillo will work, and 8th for NBC.

But wait, there's more. Fresh off signing quite a new deal with NBC Universal, "American Idol" host, E! News anchor & Los Angeles-based syndicated radio host Ryan Seacrest & tennis badboy turned analyst John McEnroe will also join Carillo as Olympic correspondents, as well as former gymnastics coach Bela Karolyi. He'll revive his correspondents' role that he had with NBC in Beijing in 2008. NBC and their cable partners' coverage of the London Summer Olympics begin July 27th.

Not that I'm aware. NBC5 hasn't announced who's going to London to represent the station locally for the Summer Olympics to provide Chicago angles to the Summer Olympics. That would mean the athletes as well as the politics pertaining to the big event.

That's not what I meant. NBC5 locally sends a couple of reporters & a camera crew to follow the LOCAL angle to the upcoming Summer Olympics. If I remember correctly, Paula Faris & Phil Rogers, not the Trib Baseball Columnist, were part of NBC5's local contingent when the Summer Olympics were in China 4 years ago...
