I thought it was kind of funny, from what they showed. I'm open to watching, but since I don't have HBO I'll wait until I hear reviews before searching for it, or going to any of my enablers' houses.

It did look to be pretty funny to me but at this point in time I'd rather they just concentrate on making a good show and not waste time and creative efforts on offshoot crap like this.

I thought the first episode was decent with the death of Bacala's innocence in a way. The best part is how Tony thinks he evened the score for losing the fight by making him kill someone. Throughout the series we see how often he delights in other people's misery.

The second episode was lackluster and reminded of the 5th season when nothing seemed to happen. It seemed strange how they dropped Johnny Sack's cancer and then death on the audience so quickly.

Last night's episode was disappointing. Half of the episode is Tony gambling like a degenerate, and the other half was Burrito Vito's goth kid taking a dump in the shower. I at least expected some major interaction between Tony and Phil. They spoke for two minutes and that was that.

I've only watched episode 1 of this season and feel like I've barely missed anything. What the hell. I feel like watching my DVR is going to be pointless.

The dump in the shower was a classic TV moment.

That was pretty gross.

I'm just pissed because that episode was about a whole 42 freaking minutes - the credits rolled at 10 'til! David Chase, you lazy prick

there doesn't seem to be any urgency; it doesn't seem like this is the last season...usually there's a feel, a lot of closure. these episodes you could plug into any of the seasons...

i know not everybody was thrilled with the last season of "six feet under" but at least every episode was leading to the ultimate end.

i did find the "shit shower" scene funny though

How about Tony's money problems or Phil Leotardo's ascent to power for urgency? It does take a few times to recognize all the subtleties throughout each episode, but at least the writers/directors don't feel the need to beat you over the head with the major storylines/arcs.

Coach,
They've done it throughout the years.
Remember Tony has a waste management consulting gig as his "legit" income & benefits source. I believe they dropped $200K as the figure.

Here was Bill Sommon's take on it:

: I'll cut right to the chase. My friends and I have debated what we think Tony Soprano takes home a year. Pre or post-tax, your choice.
--Mike, Watchung, N.J.

SG: Obviously, this question was too important to answer on my own, so I contacted the one person who would know: My stepdad, a diehard "Sopranos" fan (this is an understatement) and the right person for this question on about 10 different levels. Yes, he's 100 percent Italian. And no, he's not in the mafia. As far as I know. Anyway, here was his take:

"Remember, Tony is the top guy. So everyone's kicking back to him on everything they're doing. He's got 7-8 captains working under him, and those people all have people working under THEM, so he's getting kickbacks on every single thing that happens. Just in the last few episodes, Gay Vito offered him 200K to get back into the fold; Paulie mentioned that his cut from the Italian Feast was 30K; and the big fat guy brought them the huge envelope right before they stabbed him. He's getting kickbacks like that every week from every direction. That stuff adds up.

"Then you have to factor in all their businesses. They have gambling obviously. They have those high-stake poker games from time to time. Liquor and cigarettes. The strip joint. Construction and sanitation, which bring in more money than anything else. I'm not sure about drugs, they don't really touch that on the show. But they have those truck heists, robberies and all that other stuff -- like when Paulie killed those guys and found all the money in the refrigerator. And unlike the old days, you don't have to pay off judges and politicians anymore -- that stuff doesn't happen now.

"I would say he clears about $2 million a year. But it's all tax-free because it's all dixie money (under the table) and he doesn't have to report any of it. Remember the episode when the kid wanted to sell his family's construction business and Tony wouldn't let him because that's where he had his fake job that gave him medical insurance? That's probably the only income he reports to the IRS. And since he would be in the 50 percent tax bracket, and he's not turning over half of $2 million, it's really like he's making almost twice that much. The big problem is that it's hard to get rid of all that cash; you can't put it in the bank. So they have to bury it in their backyard or hide it in their house -- that's why Johnny Sack is screwed right now, all of his assets have been seized, he probably has money hidden all over the place and they're selling his house on him. But I say Tony pulls in about two million a year. And that might even be low."

My wife and I couldn't tell if he said "I get it" or "I did it".

Looks like it was "I get it".

I need to re-watch the entire episode.
Way too much payote tripping symbolism to digest it all in one viewing.

I thought he said "I did it"

I'm confident he said "I did it." Meaning he got rid of his burdon. A threat to his mafia.

Although if it were me, after banging that piece of ass he was with, I would have yelled from the mountain top...

"I did her."

But for a guy like Tony it's no big deal to bang fine bitches. So I guess the other thing was bigger to Tony.

Wouldn't he have died anyway? Did he really need to suffocate him?

Maybe. But he didn't want to take the chance. He could have avoided calling 911 for a while and waited. But maybe he thought the car that they almost hit might have dialed it. He couldn't take the chance of him living until the ambulance got their where they could save him.

The media reviews today all quote Tony as saying "I get it". Here's one.

yes he would have died anyway.
he didn't want to watch him die. it was a mercy "killing."

ah...i think tony was excited that he did peyote. you're reading into the mafia/mob stuff too much. that's what Chase wants you to think... :)

Are you kidding Doug. It wasn't a mercy killing. He could have called 911 and given him a chance.

He only killed him after hearing he was high on Coke. That pissed him off at that point and he figured this would be the perfect murder where he can't get caught.

He's been torn about killing him. This made it clear and easy for him to finally make up his mind.

Unlike Tony - "I don't get it !!!"

Is he saying that he figured out a way out of the business?
If not, than what exactly does he get? (other than that piece of ass)

Didn't anyone else think he was nodding off at the wheel, like he was shooting up?

I thought Chris was getting all emotional while listening to the CD, and was trying to hide it from Tony.
Tony got pissed cause it showed the true extent of Chris instability & weakness.

I thought when he said "I get it" it was in a existential way. Like, I understand why I'm here, alive, and how I can be happy and enjoy things. He was looking at the sun and it sort of winked at him before he said it. I could be wrong, as he still seemed like a miserable bastage in the next week's previews.

I thought the same thing Zizou. It was definitely "I get it," which I think was in reference to the fact that he understands now that he needed Christopher out of his life - he thinks the winning at the roulette table was symbolic of how Chrissy is no longer dragging him down, like two episodes go when he was getting his clock cleaned on everything he gambled on. Between the sex, the winning, and the euphoria from the peyote, he felt happy for the first time this season.
