Inspired by comments in the general section, just a poll to see who was the "better writer" between Bob Mould and Grant Hart. I've always argued that the Grant Hart songs are the best; perhaps you disagree.

Also, very weird video of the band on what's described as a "house-wife" show from Minneapolis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dbdEcX1ct0

I think early on Mould was, but as they got more pop I liked Harts stuff. I guess it depends on my mood because Moulds songs always seemed more agressive. I guess I give the nod to Mould because Divide and Conquer and In a Free Land are my favirote songs. Either way they might have been the greatest live band ever and maybe the greatest band the midwest ever produced.

The Replacements and Wilco are better than Husker Du.

Fall Out Boy is the best though <3 <3 <3

your opinion. Wilco has one great album and a bunch of other garbage. The Mats give Husker a run, but they basically started as a Husker Du ripoff. I think Uncle Tupelo is the best we've produced

One great album and a bunch of garbage? Are you shitting me? Explain your stance. YHF is their best, Summerteeth and Being There are very good, A Ghost Is Born is good but the songs aren't their best until their live iterations, and Sky Blue Sky is enjoyable.

Raygun is good. Cheap Trick is horrible, as are Wilco.

Soup, I think horrible, for Cheap Trick, is a bit harsh. Maybe you had to be there, I guess.

Cheap Trick is fun for what it is.

Soup, how can you love Neil Young and hate Wilco? A lot of Wilco's albums have some heavy Neil Young/Crazy Horse influences. Did you pick up Sky Blue Sky yet? Listen to "Impossible Germany."

Wilco...

A.M- Bar band crap, all the shit Farrar didn't want to deal with any longer, only a couple decent songs

Being There- Bloated

Summerteeth- Good, but the start of Tweedy becoming to arrogant

YHFT- Brilliant, well worth the praise

A Ghost is Boring- Wahhhh, I have headaches, I need to go to a mental institution. If your head hurts so much, why make ours?

Sky Blue Sky- lol, horrible, hippie dippy love struck lyrics meets Jason Mraz backing band

I have never heard any Wilco that reminds me of Neil Young at all. I am not going to pretend like I have sat down and listened to their entire catalog, but everything I have heard by them was a snooze.

Cheap Trick just makes me angry. I really cannot fathom how someone can enjoy them. That is probably just my curmudgeonly ways, but they annoy the piss out of me, which is funny because I love Styx and Chicago who everyone else thinks are annoying.

I am a picky music elitist. I think there have been maybe 10 or 15 great albums made in the time that I have been alive. All the good music and bands have long since passed.

I fail to see how Summerteeth displays Jeff Tweedy's arrogance. I mean, yeah, guy is kind of a prick, but I don't pick up on it from "Via Chicago," fer cryin' out loud. That album is one of my favorite summer driving albums, by the way.

It's fun to sing along to "Surrender" and "I Want You To Want Me" in the car with your friends. That's the extent of the use I have for Cheap Trick.

I used to think this. There's always going to be great music, you just have to look in the right places.

It's even more fun to sing along with "He's A Whore". God forbid they ever have that in a songbook at a karaoke night.

Middle-class white girls love "I Want You To Want Me" and "Don't Stop Believin'." What's with this. Maybe they were on The O.C.?

There's a reason why I loved them in the seventh grade- it's because their lyrics sound like they could have been written by any of my peers at the time.

maybe until YHF, "being there" looked a lot better. i still think "being there" is wilco's greatest all around effort.

music is very subjective. i like some of cheap trick's stuff for novel reasons. i have guilty pleasures, stuff in my car that i don't exactly roll down the windows to.

i have tendencies to be a music snob but i'm so far out of the game now as far as discovering new artists that i can't say what is the greatest/worst stuff out there; all I can say is that the mix still plays ALL of the horse shit that is out there and is popular.

i get caught up in the argument of "who could like this band?" sometimes but not nearly as much as I did when i was a teenager. i don't know, i gave up after a guy i knew who was a brilliant guitarist thought that good charlotte was the best band to come out in the last 10 years.

i've been really into the kaiser chiefs, and shiny toy guns lately. i'm looking forward to getting wilco's new album. the samples i've listened to sound nice.

Stink, you are an epitome of a music snob.
If your favorite band (whomever it is today, Citizen Dick?) ever got mainstreamed, you'd have no choice but to hate them.

Sky Blue Sky won't change the world, but it's enjoyable driving music.

Not true, I love plenty of bands that have sold multiple millions of records.

I knew I shouldn't have started a music poll and left the board for a day. If it's gonna be that kinda party, maybe we should start another poll.
