Good day.

The obvious difference being that that post was from 2010 and once people asked me not to spoil the show I stopped...unlike someone else.

yep, I think you're right. :drunken:

Oddly, "The Shining" was a pretty good movie, even though it was total crap compared to the book. Damn, reading that book was creepy as fuck.

Ok thoughts on the episode:

- Theon's awkward taking of Winterfell was done to perfection. It was just as awkward in the book, and they portrayed that sense of dismissive confusion well. We really got to see Theon dig his hole deeper with every word.

- I forgot just how much I missed Joffrey. He and Tyrion don't get much screen time, but their dialogue after the riots was fantastic.

- The Arya/Tywin scenes continue to be some of the best of the season. Charles Dance's portrayal has always been spotless, and while it pisses off the book purists, I feel like it's been a tremendous adaptation.

- Sandor ripping out entrails? Awesome.

- Osha's body wasn't too shabby, although I can't imagine the smell. Theon's gone from fucking Roz to a sea-wench to a stank-ass wildling kitchen servant. Time to upgrade, brother. You're a Prince now.

- Snow/Ygritte finally got underway, albeit a bit differently than the books, but still. Ygritte doesn't look like I envisioned her, but she's not too far off. Work that ass, girl. Grind up on my black fur codpiece a little more and maybe I'll sheathe my bastard sword in your wildling skeez.

- Finally we get to see the ever-warping Case of the Missing Dragons. I perfectly understand why they're doing this, and I'll explain more in the book spoilers thread. For those who are butthurt over the changes, get over it.

I didn't read the books, but nice summary. You're a keeper, I guess.

i, too, was fine with the changes. the show's pace has been phenomenally fast this season. while the first season was something to soak in, this one's really moving. i think the plot points make sense. loved kill #2 for arya.

it amused me how "cute" the ygritte scene was. the show could definitely use some lightness to it because so much dark shit happens. i'm interested to see how bolton works out comparatively. he's not as "icy" in the show as he is in the book...i'm thinking that will change.

Just a minor gripe, but the new show theme sucks. The season 1 intro's score had a lot more punch to it, the new one feels kinda wimpy in comparison.

More stray observations of ep 6:

- I really enjoyed how Halfhand took Jon Snow under the learning tree, trying to open his eyes to the Watch. It was a subtle moment of Snow's development that worked out well, although it's hard to understand when you can't understand...or something.

- Littlefinger's too cunning and adept to not know it was Arya. Interested in how that'll work.

- Cersei's acting this season has been so cheesy. She was much better as a stone-faced biotch instead of this ever-weeping overdramatic hooch.

- Why the hell isn't King Joffrey wearing his crown?

- Sophie Turner (sansa) was probably 15 during the attempted rape scene, so I'm pretty sure her parents/guardian had to be in attendance. There was no nudity or implied sex that took place, but a big nasty fucker had her legs spread, shouting, "you ever been fucked, little girl?" If her folks were looking on, I'm sure it made for quite an awkward dinner.

- Joffrey needs his own sigil: a kitten with an arrow stuck through it's face. His words: "KILL THEM. KILL ALL OF THEM, I COMMAND IT!"

- The mob quite literally employed the second commandment.

- Whoever thought it would be a good strategy to smash a fully-armored Sandor Clegane with a rock the size of a grapefruit really deserved a bit more of a sweet death. Something hilarious instead of the simple stabbing he gets.

Image

- The Spice King is quite jolly. I say "jolly" because he smiles a lot and is fat.

- Dany's rocking the Green Power Ranger outfit.

- Xaro Xhoan Daxos is standing by a statue of Abraham Lincoln.

- "I AM DAENARYS STORMBORN OF THE BLAH BLAH blah blah." That shit's gotta kill Ser Jorah's hard on.

- I hope I'm not the only one who laughed at the soldier dropping dead in front of Tywin. I was waiting for the Benny Hill theme to start.

- As Jaqen H'ghar would say, "A man wants to get laid, but a mother is cockblocking him."

i did say to myself, "robb's totally being cockblocked" after that scene between him and cat.

i like tywin a lot more in the series than in the book. but again, i'm finding that they have homogenized a lot of the characters' traits. sandor's kinder in the series as well.

how many times have you watched this episode? it's making me want to watch it again.

Just twice. I usually watch it the night it premieres, give it a day or two, then watch it again with a more scrutinous eye.

+1 Charles Dance is a great underrated actor. I just remembered he was the bad guy from The Golden Child.

Game of Thrones season 2 is setting benchmarks for most illegally-downloaded TV series of all time, yet:

Quote:
HBO co-president Eric Kessler has said he thinks the move away from traditional television to an internet-based model is just a fad that will pass – a “temporary phenomenon” tied to the down economy.

Right...

that's a great article. I've been saying for years that as great as HBO is creatively speaking when it comes to its original programming, it has always been overshadowed by how tragically and massively inept they are on the business side of things. I say tragic because as a fan of Deadwood it was a shame to see that show get needlessly terminated because the idiots at HBO took so long to offer up contract extensions that the cast simply went and took jobs elsewhere. there was no need for that. Just like there was no need for the routinely 2 year breaks between seasons of Sopranos because of the same penny pinching.

Every show they have they screw up eventually with behind the scenes crap. That article is a great example of the kind of illogical nonsensical thinking that goes on at HBO.

My guess is the inability to maximize the earning potential of Game of Thrones coupled with the ever increasing production costs as the seasons go along will rather quickly lead to the same type of abrupt ending we saw with Deadwood or at the very least the same types of hiatuses we saw with Sopranos. With that many actors in the cast there's no way they can not fuck that up when it comes time to get paid.

Enjoy this show while it lasts, don't be shocked if we don't get all the way to season 5.

there are only 3 shows that come to mind immediately that had near perfect runs: "mr. show" (which was cancelled but it still had 4 wonderful seasons), "six feet under", and "the wire".

shakes is dead on with the HBO business side. it seems like all they care about is enticing you to subscribe to the channel and then once they've got you, fuck you. they're clueless.

they typically cannot handle running shows and "rome" and "deadwood" were criminally cut short. and i know fans of "carnivale" felt the same way. i still don't know why "the mind of the married man" was cancelled.

then you had bloated shows like "the sopranos" and "curb" that just go in circles until the end.

Bit gory of an ending tonight. Overall the episode was weak, much like some of the others this season.

Good episode tonight.

-They are getting Theon Grejoy perfect. 'Nuff said.
-The Arya/Tywin stuff is great.
-A bit confused with the Jon Snow arc...I get it, but it is quite different than the books. Not sure if I like how they are "going about it". We'll see.
-The Jaime Lannister stuff is great as always.
-I'm still really liking this season but it seems that everything is leading up to the Blackwater....and I hear it's gonna be epic.

cersei's definitely more sensitive now than she ever was in the book but i liked the uneasy awkwardness at the end of that scene between her and tyrion.

lot of dialog in the episode. only 2 left...i'm guessing they're cramming a lot in.

i didn't buy the "shock" of what theon does at the end of the episode the way that it struck me in the book. seemed much more definite. but they're building his character very well.

Still don't understand why Qarth was changed so much, but other than that it was a solid episode.

Agree on Theon. Alfie Allen deserves an Emmy nomination.

Did we see a new Gregor Clegane?

Jon Snow and Yigrette were ok, but I wish we would have seen Jon and Halfhand plot together. Hopefully they have another interaction.

Can't wait for the Battle of Blackwater.

Great episode. But they sold my favorite scene from book 2 short - when Jamie talks about the oaths he took and how everyone despises him for the one good thing he ever did.

The scenes with Tywin and Arya have been the best part of this whole season which proves I'm not a book snob.

I don't know what the hell is going on in Qarth.

Episode 7 observations:

- Last week Theon takes 5 swipes and a kick to cut a guy's head off, this week he flinches like a pussy after punching a guy in the face. C'mon, bro.

- Rickon's constant smashing of nuts (yarr) is bothersome. Stop cracking those walnuts, young man. Your future wife will give you a lifetime of that.

- Jon Snow will NOT have his balls called "stones."

- They recast Gregor Clegane? I can't tell.

- "Most girls are idiots." You said it, Arya.

- Tywin (or as I like to call him, "Stannis") and Arya steal the show again with the best writing this season's had to offer in their scenes.

- Xaro Xhoan Daxos is vying for stupidest name in television history.

- Emilia Clarke is hot but her acting kind of blows. It's beginning to show. She's one-dimensional as hell.

- I'm surprised they showed Sansa's 'flowering.' That was awkward enough in the book, but how the hell did The Hound get in there? Did he catch the scent or something? Was he waiting in the closet?

- Nice little invented scene to get Jaime some screen time since he's virtually nonexistent in book 2.

- Lady Gaga vs. Ser Jorah was uneventful. I'll give Jorah the benefit of the doubt this time because of his sweet beard.

- That Qarth scene featured the most gashes I've seen since that eurotrash orgy on Spankwire.

- The Tyrion/Cersei scene was the best Cersei's been all season. She's been almost unbearably campy this whole time and to finally hear something that didn't sound forced was nice. Her and Tyrion have an interesting and very honest dialogue that was much needed for both characters.

- "Is that a woman?"

- I think this is the first episode of the series to end on a fade.

That skinny ass Gregor sucked.

They should have stuck with Conan Stevens.

I believe I read somewhere that the original actor was filming a movie or had other contractual things to attend to.
