Anyone ever been there for a concert? We are going in June to see Glen Campbell and Ronnie Milsap and I was curious what the sound and the food/beverage is like.

The food/beverage is this:

pick out your favorite bottle of wine or two, favorite snacks and throw it in a bag. Bring it with you and sit on the lawn and get loaded.

We have pavillion seats, so I don't think we can bring wine to the seats but can at least drink it before we sit down.

Unless you really, really need to be close to Ronnie Milsap, I'd forego the pavillion for the lawn. Way better atmosphere out there.

Well I know I won't see Glen again and I have never seen Ronnie so I would like to have seats....might also pack a blanket too in case we sit on the lawn between acts

I don't take him as a Ronnie Milsap fan, but if he is there I'll buy him a spot of bubbly

Can you bring food into the pavilion or would it be suggested to drink that before we sit down?

We went there a couple summers ago for a John Williams show. It was really fucking cool. CSO doing John Williams. They started the show with the theme from JAWS. Just those couple Tuba notes... no introduction no nothing, just that. It was cool.

Lawn is the way to go. pavillion sucks and you should just say fuck it to your pavillion seats and hang out in the lawn which you're allowed to do. You're going to be tempted to go near the back but at the end of the show thats about where they pull up the train and you don't want to listen to that fucking cocksucker.

Also, bring a blanket, a couple of those foldey lawnchairs and maybe a couple candles (OOOOOOGGGGGIIIIIEEEEEE) and a box of fine wine. Or whatever. Bring your own sandwiches.

And get there early.

And seriously, fuck that pavillion.

I must be extra pretentious-y and asshole-y as we go a couple of times each summer.

You never need pavilion seats. You can stand 1 row behind the seats after buying a lawn ticket and the sound is basically the same, unless you're in the far reaches of the lawn.

Food and drink are ridiculously over-priced (as at any concert venue).

Get there early, bring in whatever you want and camp out on the lawn until showtime. We pack a wagon with chairs and a cooler and drag it in, instead of carrying everything.

Our Ravinia food of choice is Popeye's. We love seeing people react to it as they're eating their caviar and wine, with their table and candelabra set up on their blanket.

Parking is expensive, but worth it, not to have to ride the shuttle. Metra is a great option as well.

Ravinia for a country show has the real potential for unbridaled hilarity. The shitkicker crowd and the wine & cheese crowd are not a good mix (as we all know). The company my gf works for has a couple of free Ravinia nights every year. Last year, one of the nights was for zombie Lynyrd Skynard (Freebird sucks). The stories she tells of the people watching that night are hilarious.

Like confederate flags and Nattie Light next to folks drinking bubbly with the mini table and candelabra.

Forget the Pavillion. Bring whatever booze and food you want. You can bring a whole cooler full of beer, hard stuff, wine, whatever. Do shots on the lawn if you want. I was able to get a couple of glasses of ice from one of the portable stands as well. Bring citronella candles, you will need them. I found people were fairly respectful of your 'space' once you had your blanket spread out.

The shuttle bus was literally about a 60second ride for us last year, free parking at the shuttle lots. With kids it might be different, but we didn't mind it. Darko brings up a great point about the train. Either deal with it being more crowded toward the front, or sit on the east side of the park unless you want to strain to hear the music over the locomotive that will sit there for at least 15-20min before the show ends.

We are going twice this summer (June 23 and July 7).

August 7th, CSO plays one of my favorite compositions, Ravel's Concerto pour main gauche en ré majeur. Commissioned for a concert pianist who lost the use of his right arm. May've even lost the whole arm entirely. The point is, it's an amazing piece. They're also doing Debussy's La mer, which I'm not so fond of compared to the unbridled brilliance of the Preludes, but hey. Had a shitty time with my shitty ex last year (and what a show to have spoiled, Liszt, Berlioz, and Chopin), but I don't want to miss this one. Got about two and a half months to procure a hot date. For classical music. Wish me well.

I can't wait to see Ravinia . We are planning on bringing in a bottle of the vino to enjoy before the show.

Bring a couple blankets and coats. We left the house last summer it was 90 degrees. By the time the band started it was about 50 with a 30 mph wind. I'm no fairy but damn it was cold. We were lucky-we got a couple 80 dollar sweatshirts before they sold out. Better safe than broke and sorry.

Yeah, good call. Sweaters for sure.

CSO lineup doesn't look that good this year. Other than the Debussy/Ravel night, not much I really want to see.
