Its not been all bad for the Sox, Orr. C'mon now. I know 16 games doesn't make a season, but hell they have at least started off a lot better than they had the last 4-5 years under Ozzie.

I was being sarcastic, Frank. I think it's pretty obvious this Sox team has enough pitching to do pretty well. But the sports radio narrative is to dump them in with an historically bad Cubs team.

I don't mind li'l danny or whoever saying, "it's only sixteen games, don't get excited", but if they were 6-10, those sixteen games would tell you all you needed to know about a "bad baseball team", right?

People can call it WSOX if they want to, but the Score's general editorial viewpoint on Chicago baseball is unbridled optimism over the Cubs well beyond the point when such optimism looks foolish and utter negativity toward the White Sox.

and all but one of those 16 games were played against teams who were above .500 when their respective series started...with the A's being 1 game below

I think there are more than enough reasons to be optimistis after the first 10% of the season. This is what we expected from Dunn, Rios and Peavy last year.

Agreed, gd.

And here is another reason to be optimistic that they can be in this race all season long. From May 11th thru June 24, the Sox have a grand total of 11 games outside the city of Chicago-- 14 road games including a series at Wrigley Field. Meanwhile they have 26 homes games during that time with some bad bad teams on the schedule; KC, Cubs twice, Twins, Houston, Seattle). They beat up on those bad teams, honestly its not out of the realm to see the Sox up on the Tigers by a couple of games at the AS break.

Thanks God the Twins are no longer in the conversation.

I get you though.
To me, the teams I feel personal rivalries with are formed in the playoffs. I don't see the Cubs having a rivalry with the Cards or the Brewers... no my personal one is the GODDAMN Padres. I hate the 'Nucks, moreso than the wings who pretty much kicked the everloving shit out of the Hawks for a decade. Yeah, rivalries are supposed to be close teams and division foes but whatever.

The Sox have the MVP, Cy Young Winner, and Executive of the Year on this team.

Abandon ship and we won't come back for you when you're drowning in the sea of iniquity.

Mully and Hanley should pull that "jagerbombs" video from youtube for the "not now chief, I'm in the zone" quote and play it back at Cooper whenever he pulls that shit.

The division is weak with no team displaying the ability to dominate the division. But I have to call "bullshit" on this prediction, mainly because of the team's poor record within their own division. I have to belive it will be the determining factor. That said, I see no reson to believe the Sox will not hang around top of the division for most of the season, assuming they have no major injuries. Peavy has had over a month on the DL in each of the past 5 seasons. As well as he has pitched to date, I have serious doubts that he will hold up for the full season.

73.4% chance of making the playoffs, according to
http://www.coolstandings.com/baseball_standings.asp?sn=2012&i=1

...maybe because the Sock leads the division in run differential by a wide margin (Cleveland has a negative run differential, FWIW)

Sox fan dan bernstein swears by those percentages as if they are facts. Except when they suggest something good for his "favorite" team.

 Let me save you the embarrassment of another bad phone call.
Cleveland 14-10
White Sox 15-11
Detroit 11-10

Kansas City and Minnesota(remember when you jumped on that bandwagon): bad.

I think Sale has moved past Peavy in the Cy Young lead.

He has obviously been breathing in too many paint fumes. Earlier today, he suggested that the Cubs should be shopping Soto, Lahair, and Reed Johnson to bring back prospects.
