Anybody ever catch his show on Yahoo Sports Radio? I guess he used to be the lead producer for The Jim Rome show for about 15 years and ended up getting canned. It's is pretty solid for a national show and is a little similar to Rome. Not a bad alternative if the Sox game is on SCR or B&B is boring or bad....

I keep meaning to give his show a listen. What did he get canned over?

From what I've read, they just sort of beat him to the punch. He was doing weekend shows and podcasts and either Rome or somebody else wasn't too happy with it. They told him the show was moving in a new direction ( )

I thought the same thing the first time I heard it, RPB. He even has some of the same speech patterns. Then I read that he was around Rome forever so it made sense.

Travis Rodgers was the longtime producer of the Jim Rome Show. Jim and Travis almost acted like close personal friends, since Travis always traveled with Jim and many of the successful ideas of the Rome show (particularly the Smack-Off) were ideas of Travis's. Travis was considered such an important part of the show, that when his tenth anniversary as producer occurred, Jim had a whole show dedicated to it: he brought it special guests, had a couple nice gifts, and it marks the only time Janet (Jim's wife) actually called and got onto the air.

Well, time went by, and Jim hired a guy named Kyle to read tweets. Kyle basically became Rome's favorite guy, and apparently fed Jim's interests, while Travis was trying to continue the successful formula that he'd always done. Then in 2009, Rome closed out a show saying that Travis would no longer be producing the show. Kyle was promoted to producer (over the head of longtime phone screener Jason Stewart), and Travis has been erased like he was never part of the show at all.

Travis is buddies with Sean Pendergast, better known as the Cablinasian, who had won the Smack-Off five times, before being vaporized from the show himself by taking a radio gig with a station that competed with Rome's affiliate in the Houston market. Sean got Travis guest host opportunities when he was out, and helped him get his own show at 1560 the Game. Travis, of course, got his own nationally broadcast show with what is now known as Yahoo! Sports Radio. And so does Sean.

That's pretty much the whole thing. Rome holds grudges. He's held a grudge against JT the Brick for 12 years now. He's grudged against Travis and Sean. He never forgives nor forgets, and he has Communist Party like tactics to try to get people to forget two Smack-Off winners and a longtime co-worker ever existed.

He's also on CBS Sports Network, DIRECTV 613, weekdays 9A-Noon in addition to Yahoo! Sports Radio. Not as good as "The Dan Patrick Show" on DIRECTV's Audience Network.

Friday Facts with Brian Beckner on this show is always very funny. Rodgers' laughs are genuine, contagious, and add to the segment. Unlike the phoniness on the Score, specifically the morning show, where nothing is ever as funny as buffoon Mulligan would have you believe.

Yep. My favorite segment. Really the only "bit" the show has. Every now and then, he has Beckner sit in which has turned out really well so far...

The only thing that I think is similar would be the way he speaks sometimes. Other than that, he throws more than an occasional shot at Rome. Usually something like "...and they say he dyes his goatee. I once worked for a guy who dyed his goatee." Other than that...not sure. Doesn't really take many calls. No "clones". No drops. No pauses. Does use twitter a lot, but it works.

His listeners tweet and email in a similar fashion to Rome's clones. That's to be expected, i guess. They used to listen to Rome, I assume. "Signed, _______" Ya know, that sort of thing.

I assume he took what he considered 'the good things' from his 12 years with Rome.
