One of my all time favorite Cubs....but he was awful this year and he knew it and this is a class move to shut it down instead of just banking money and getting beat around.

It's just a new-fangled metric. Was I surprised it came out on top? Yes.

But it illustrates how dominant the guy was, 5 games into his MLB career. Obviously he was derailed by injury, as he only went on to win 86 games. Still, a 21 year old Kerry Wood was a beast...

Without a doubt. I'm a fan, but typical Cubs that injuries derailed a potentially dominant career.

It's unfortunate this guy couldn't stay healthy. One of my favorite players ever. I would love to have a team of guys with his mentality (Bulls were close this season). Class guy and some of the nasty stuff you've ever seen.

Some see this display as a sappy, contrived ending for Kerry Wood's career. Perhaps it is. But you see sappy, contrived endings in movies that make you feel good when you leave the theater all the time. I prefer it to the "real" ending that would have marked the end of his career, if not for this appearance...which was the glove/hat tossing game that was an unfortunate lowlight in Kerry's career. Better to leave on this note instead

I get that Wood is more icon than reality. He is Elvis or the Beatles to fans, especially to those who grew into fandom in the 90s. I also understand that as an icon the love is due to a connection that was made that goes beyond numbers. In conclusion, I understand and agree with you easily manipulated losers. It was nice for you and him to have your moment.
