One of the best SP & RP over the last 15 years or so for the Cubs: Ryan Dempster

Not even close Vs. Kerry Wood.

Okay? They've both been good. Dempster will get a similar reception when he hangs em up/gets traded.

Dempster has had 15.8 WAR as a Cub over 9 seasons, for 1.76 WAR per season.
Wood has had 24.1 WAR as a Cub over 12 seasons, for 2.01 WAR per season.

Those are both just "ok" numbers.

Edit:

In traditional stats:

Dempster 62-62, 87 saves, 3.80 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 1028 K, 103 HR
Wood 80-68, 35 saves, 3.67 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 1469 K, 137 HR

And Dempster's better suited to doing color on the radio after retirement, too.

Dempster is another class act. He obviously takes over as Mr. Cub of the current roster. It's hard to believe this is his 9th season here isn't it.

He'd booth bound when he retires even if it's not as a Cub.

He's also funny as heck.

I expect him and Kerry to be involved in the organization long after retirement.

His contract is up after this year. Wouldn't mind resigning him depending on the price tag.

The fact that he hasn't shot the bullpen is also a testament to his endurance of pain.

Trivia. The day he made his Cubs debut the headlines were dominated by 2 other stories involving the game and it was barely noticed. What were they?

Actually it was the day Nomar made his Cubs debut and Greg Maddux was making his first crack at win #300. Dempster entered the game in the 7th.

Dempster is a Canadian Marlin.
