How can anybody say that he definitely didn't throw at Paulie on purpose? He threw one at Alexei's head in the second inning, after Paulie's homerun. He also drilled Jason Heyward earlier in the season after he launched one off the Howard Stern looking Samardzija.

That is what you call a pattern.

Right, no pitcher has ever drilled a hitter with anything but a fastball.

Going by his history with Heyward, and the pitch that he threw at Alexei, it is certainly a possibility.

I'm not saying he definitely threw at him, but to say that there was no chance at all that he was throwing at him is silly.

Maybe. But its certainly not the 2007 Rockies, who didn't even win 1 WS game, let alone a title. They had a great 6 week stretch, but its not one of the premier postseason runs. The only other teams that could possibly even be in the discussion are the '98 Yankess and '04 Red Sox.





...and maybe the '03 Marlins

as far as "stories" go, '04 red sox has gotta be one of the top. but so does the '05 white sox. it still annoys me that ESPN pretty much all but pretended the '05 world series didn't exist. it was a great story. they hadn't won a world series in 8 decades just like the red sox...but because they play second fiddle to the cubs, nobody but white sox fans talk about it.

That and the fact that the 2004 Red Sox were loaded with talent and the 2005 White Sox were for the most part a bunch of mundane overachievers, unless you think more of Jon Garland than I do.

EDIT: That and the fact that most ESPNers are either native or adoptive New Englanders.
