pretty disappointed with this effort from sacha baron cohen. the guy is way more intelligent than this "geared toward adolescent" mush. it has some laughs, sure; but it really doesn't have a solid, thoroughly drawn story. it's very slap dash and some of the jokes are extremely expositional. almost as if he doesn't trust that the audience will get it unless it's explained in detail what he's getting at. and way, way too much of this is done through dialog.

one couple, kinda young, actually got up and left with 20 minutes to spare. there's no way it was because they were offended by any of the material. they would've left earlier if that were the case. i kinda don't blame them.

the movie just doesn't deliver. it has a promising premise and some good scenes here or there (the best one obviously being the helicopter scene)...but it just doesn't have enough juice. some of it was downright uninspired.

also, the guy's supposed to be north african and can speak english; but there are some scenes, including the helicopter one, that kinda contradicts the fact that he says he isn't "arab".

oh well. at least it's a short movie.

:D :D out of :D :D :D :D

nooooooooooo! Say it ain't so Zach, say it ain't so!

You may be inclining me not to go see this film today. If it is bad, the film will be at the dollar theater shortly. :(

i guess if you're going to just turn the brain off and have a few laughs it's harmless...i just expected more from him. although, $1 is about all you wanna spend on a movie like this.

and i showed up WAY too early to this showing...had to sit through all those dumb ass commercials. ugh!

That's really disappointingto hear. A couple other people who's opinion I respect told me it was about a 1-1/2. Was it because expectations are too high or is there just not enough material to mine?

I saw this today. I don't totally disagree w/ you Zack, but I found it a little more entertaining than you did. The scenes w/ the talking teddy bear were great...

... oh wait, that was the preview for Ted.

I don't know how that "contradicts" that he isn't Arab. Most people of North Africa who speak Arabic or a dialect of it don't consider themselves Arab. That is mainly true in Egypt. Others, who clearly aren't Arab, but claim it as an identity, do it for political reasons.

But he isn't an arab, that's why he says he isn't arab.
