Looks like June for Rizzo when they need a DH per numerous reports!

The talk is DeJesus to CF with LaHair to RF. I'd rather they just eat 98% Soriano's contract and unload him instead. That will be a brutal outfield defensively.

Cubs to discuss Rizzo's eventual arrival
May, 20, 2012
May 2011:56AM CTBy Doug Padilla | ESPNChicago.com Recommend1Tweet8Comments0EmailPrint[+] Enlarge

Anthony Rizzo's much-anticipated debut in a Chicago Cubs uniform could come in less than three weeks.

The power-hitting and slick-fielding first baseman, who has been tearing up the Pacific Coast League with 14 home runs and a .353 batting average at Triple-A Iowa, could come in handy when the Cubs start playing at American League ballparks in a few weeks.

“Yeah that’s definitely going to be talked about,” manager Dale Sveum said when asked if it’s time to bring up Rizzo to help with a struggling offense. “He’s done everything he can down there. But once again, when you bring up somebody like that he has to play every day. That’s a million-dollar question now: How do we get that playing time?”

Rizzo isn’t about to send current first baseman Bryan LaHair to the bench and according to Sveum, Rizzo will not play anywhere but first. That would mean that LaHair moves to the outfield, but at the expense of who? Left field would be the logical spot, but that move isn’t so easy.

Despite the begging and pleading from fans, the Cubs aren’t about to quit on Alfonso Soriano right now, not when he is still owed his $19 million this year and $38 million over the next two seasons after that.

But it’s not just the money that is influencing the Cubs’ decision, it’s the fact that Soriano brings a veteran presence and is one of the few players on the roster that can supply power when his swing is right. The problem is that he hasn’t supplied much power, although he is finally heating up with three home runs over the last week.

When the Cubs’ interleague schedule shifts to American League parks, beginning with a June 8-10 series at Minnesota, the designated hitter spot will open a role for an additional bat.

“Probably the beginning of June and interleague play when we need the DH and those type of things too,” Sveum said about Rizzo’s possible arrival.

The Cubs play just six road interleague games, though. Aside from the series at Minnesota, they also play the White Sox across town June 18-20.

The schedule has them playing nine interleague home games (when the designated hitter isn’t used). In addition to the current series against the White Sox, they have home series against the Detroit Tigers (June 12-14) and the Boston Red Sox (June 15-17).

Plenty of $78 bleacher tickets available to see him play.

Frank gets mad and plays his obsessed card when he has no real other comeback to my 'Sections" available.

I must have missed where I made a thread and have ongoing comments about giving credit to any Sox player that retired?

However, to remain on the topic of the next HOFer, Rizzo, I would not lie to see him here for a few games and then back down. Especially after Hoyer said how careful he would be about doing that.

So what happens when he is bad for a while, as are most rookies?

Time for him to fly or fall. This mgmt team has dragged him behind them for the third team now. He can perform or be another Felix pie that was mcphails anchor. They should call him up in June or July and play him every day. If it doesn't work send him back to the padres.

I would be afraid of this thinking if I was Cubs management. He is young. You give him plenty of time to succeed.

This makes the most sense in that Campana is NOT an everyday player. Soriano has the reputation (well deserved) as a terrible outfielder. But he has done a pretty fair job in the field this season. LaHair is a bad outfielder and I agree that this trio is not going to be very good. But they sure as hell need more offense. Rizzo's arrival will give fans a reason to renew a bit of interest in the team this season. I don't think he has anything more to prove at AAA.

That's pretty much my point. By late June/early July the cub will be 15 to 20; games under with no pressure to win--just improve. Dropping a rookies in a pennant chase is a problem but a rotten team with no hope can put him in the lineup and move him from 3 to 7 in the lineup as he progresses. Just don't call him up and play him every six days then sendhim down when he doesn't hit.
As an aside-i think bobsburgers is the worst show I have ever seen. Just as background noise this is vomit.

It's just the Cubs fricking luck that the player playing the best in the minors plays the same position as their only player playing good in the majors!

The one good thing that can come out of alost season is the ability to take some risks, try some experiments and see what happens.

I wouldn't even mind losing a few more games in 2012 if it means player development and getting some answers going into the future.

He got some of that out of his system last year.

You still have to expect struggles. Like any other player. Whats the issue?

If ever there was a season that a team could afford a player to struggle (if Rizzo does) it's this one. The team is not going to contend, so the priority has to be development of it's good young talent. Again-Rizzo has proven about all that one can at AAA. The only reason to still have him "down on the farm" (shit-now I'm hankerin for some Jimmy Deans sausages) is to limit his service time in the Major Leaugues this season.

I'm sure you get a "hankerin" for sausage quite often.

No reason to bring him until Sept 1. If they were any good you bring him up. They suck so you leave him down. Pretty simple

Guys like IMU panic, I await to see the greatness...whenever it might be!

I think there is more pressure on Jed and Theo than on Rizzo. Especially if you really turn back the clock to them scouting A Gonz! This was their premier pick of all time. Then trading Rizzo for A Gonz, places him in that elite class in terms of prospects.

bigfan's streak of "not being in the know" continues. You've also been on a lonely bandwagon supporting Randy Wells.

Exact point I was about to make. I've been in the backseat on the Wells bandwagon, but my hand is on the door handle at this point
