While it is indeed good that the cops aren't retaliating, it's specifically part of their job not to retaliate. I don't believe in giving plaudits and kudos to people for doing the obviously correct thing (aka 'doing what they're supposed to do').

But that wasn't your original point ... your original point was to flatly declare the always so successful 'eye for an eye' under the guise of 'self-defense', two distinctly different concepts that have really nothing to do with each other.

I get what you're saying, but I would politely suggest you may be missing my point which is the concept of needing a permit - e.g, government permission - to protest against government is what the first problem with the whole thing is.

I state again: how did we reach a point as a country founded on many principles, one of them being the freedom of speech and assembly to criticize government, finds itself where so many people think we need to ask permission to practice very plainly stated inalienable rights?

There is no codifying the two ideas - they cannot both exist. This is not debatable, it is fact.

You know Rahm and barry have their cahones in a vise at this point. They give the people the right to protest what they are doing/saying as a government peacefully, but then again it takes one dbag in the bunch to screw that up. They (barry and rahm) are then screwed because they gave them the right and it got out of hand then are now in the position to protect chicago and the people that live and work here as well as conduct business.
