In fairness Peeps, it is possible that NATO is going to see these protests and vote to disband NATO.

Vets throwing their NATO medals back = protest

Dancing in a drum circle in the middle of an intersection = not a protest

No. I believe the majority of the people protesting have zero idea what they are actually protesting.

So far I've heard the economy, capitalism, brutality, the government, and war. One of those has something to do with NATO.

And I'm emotional about it because I'm having friends who are being hit with shit, figuratively and literally, from these useless cuntbags.

Yeah, well Im glad you've come down from ALL to Most. Eventually you'll get to FEW, which is the truth.

I understand why you are emotional

I think that's actually on the docket for this morning Rick.

The President of Azerbaijan said he was moved by the people throwing poop like howler monkeys.

The group of protestors actually infringed upon the rights of other groups way, way more than the police/city did. They are blcking streets illegally, attempting to interrupt the legal assembly of the NATO leaders. You do see that, right? No group has the right to infringe upon the rights of others, which is exactly what these protestors are doing.

You apparently have no problem with the rich and powerful blocking the streets for their own benefit even when it stops you from attending a game played by your beloved Cubs, but you somehow work up outrage when the poor and disenfranchised- with whom you undoubtedly have more in common- do the same. Did it ever occur to you that that is exactly what at least some of the protesting is about?

They block off the streets for Cub games to ensure safe pedestrian traffic for the fans going to/coming from the game. As far as the more affluent having a more comfortable life, is that really something worthy of protest? They and their families WORKED to have a better life. These protesters might be a whole lot better off, if they decided to put as much effort into finding a job and working hard at it, as they do protesting the fact that life isn't as easy as they would like it to be.

I just saw a sign in a picture that said "Stop the war on other species. Go vegan for peace".

If this is the kind of stuff that gets protested and doesn't get laughed at or kicked out by the other people then things aren't that bad.

I have a question after reading yesterdays head slamming into wall moments.

Who the fuck is Barry?

Also, the "Big Cock Boyd" thing in the same sentence as mentioning the Hoffys' kid...just fucking wrong. More fucked up than being called "Big Cock Boyd" by a dude posting as a chick. Just sayin'. Keep my name out of references like that shit.

The protestors broadcasting into the small hours overnight certainly didn't appear to be about anything other than being a part of the nebulous--in terms of specific goals--"Occupy" movement. Traveling from protest city to protest city with the same core group of occupiers.

The Occupy movement, apparently, is something akin to a dead-head or jam-band phenomenon, sans the bad music.

Simply younger folks looking to belong to something greater than themselves and meet other young people and take drugs and hang out. (lotsa drugs came out after dark, not that there's anything wrong with that).

The occupiers who stuck it out and made it out to the jail at Belmont and Western were almost to a man not from Chicago.
I had to explain to "jrozlive" and his crew of 20 how to get from the Loop to Western and Belmont via the Blue Line.

They also apparently don't know how to research a city before occupying it. yourcta.com or google maps would've given them instructions on how to catch the Blue Line and xfer to the Western bus to get out to Belmont. [They had broken off from the main march which actually walked all the way out there via Milwauke to Division/Ashland then up to Damen or some side streets to Clybourn. ]

Once on the Blue line, the police (illegally, to me) detained jroz and one of the chicks in his crew and searched their backpacks. They eventually let em go and the occupy kids made it out to Western and Belmont.

I think if you cornered jroz or any of these traveling for the Summer occupiers and asked them, a la the Wild One, "what are you rebelling against?" They wouldn't give Marlon Brando's ""Whaddaya got?" response. Rather,

"Woah, wait, we're rebelling?"

Nice enough kids and they are enjoying the experience. But it has no more meaning than a grateful dead tour, imo.

Glad you're glad.

Hopefully you'll find a country to live in that only lets certain people protest.

Nah I'm good here.

Let me know if you find a place where violence disguised as protest is cool.

According to what they were saying last night, they are gathering just west of here in Union Park (where Pitchfork takes place) and then marching through the West Loop to Boeing's HQ at 100 N Riverside to "celebrate" Boeing not being open today.

No one is looking for a place like that or deeming anything cool.

Im sorry that your friend, cousin, whatever had to deal with some idiots. That doesnt mean theyre ALL or even MOSTLY like that.

You're smarter than to make that generalization

This guy is pretty close /\

But sometimes protests get in the way of things like traffic. Thats how they get noticed.

I have no problem with them attempting to disrupt things or the cops arresting those that break laws.

If they arent breaking laws, then leave them be.

Pretty simple.

I think labeling ALL or MOST protesters idiots or criminals is unwise

Peeps, out of curiosity what are your thoughts about protesters at the 1968 DNC?
