When the ESPN family of networks start a new season of college football this fall, Pam Ward will NOT be one of them. Although she's still very much with the "Worldwide Leader", Pam has been removed from the networks' coverage of college football for the upcoming season.
According to an ESPN statement, Ward
"will continue to be a big part of our coverage plans across multiple sports including college basketball, softball, the WNBA and more." Pam had called college football, primarily Big Ten games with former Lions & Browns' linebacker Chris Spielman on ESPN2 since 2000, and news of her removal from these games actually spread like wildfire on the Internet yesterday.
She & Beth Mowins were the ONLY 2 female play-by-play voices calling college football on the many ESPN properties, Needless to say, Pam had her critics during her 11-year run calling these broadcasts, naming the sports media Web site, awfulannouncing.com. In fact, AA's Matt Yoder recorded the following collection of "Greatest Hits" from Pam's tenure on ESPN's college football. Her face, along with that of fellow ESPNer Dick Vitale, ex-ESPN/ABC college football analyst Craig James & "MLB on FOX's" Tim McCarver are prominently displayed on their home page.
