There were about 150 boys/men in our graduating HS class. I think ONE could dunk a basketball. And he was about 6'4". Of course our teams always sucked.

Bernsie is the best. 5' 6" and he can dunk? Wow, those shoes must be patented secret invention that only he had access too! You can bet he made them in the lab in his basement, he is so smart and trained at Duke. A very sharp mind, indeed! Could you imagine what an NBA player could do on the court if he went to Duke AND wore those secret shoes? I bet he could do a radio show as well as have a 70 inch vertical! Could you believe that!? WOW.

And Knox? He's a nice kid.

ever hear the legend of vlad's tryout with the expos? i think they were looking at wilton but said well come on so vlad was so poor he had two mismatched-sizes shoes, socks stuffed in the tip of the bigger one so it fit, and he had to hitch a ride on the back of a motorcycle to the tryout.

then on his first pitch he hit an inside the park homerun or something. at worst a double. the dude's a natural and i can't wait for pride of les exos the vladimir guerrero story to come out direct to video someday

It's like the story about him saying he could hit a 95 MPH fastball. Just saying that sounds insane.

But when you tell the whole story, where Dan said that with an unlimited number of swings in a batting cage it's just a matter of timing, the story isn't nearly as ludicrous.

Exactly.

Now if it were Laurence saying these things, I'd support the uproar because he is known for putting on a song and dance to get people to like him. Laurence by far has more of the "look what I can do" complex than anybody on that station. Bernstein doesn't really have that. .

You are wrong. However, Laurence does it to make himself sound similar to everyone else. Bernstein does it to show how different (and superior) he is to everyone else.

Lets just lay this out. If you are under 5"10 and you can dunk, you have crazy hops.

But we're talking tennis balls here. To dunk a tennis ball all you really need to be able to do is touch the rim basically. I couldn't dunk a basketball back then, but a tennis ball? Yeah.

So you were 5'6, with the arms of a 5'6 person, and you could touch the rim?

You have good hops then my man.

And lets just be clear here.

Bernstein can hit 95 mph heat and has a 40 inch vertical right? Thats what were going with?

He could run a 4.35 40 before the knee injury.

If he was athletic, he would have played a sport in high school and we would be treated to incessant stories of glory days. He could walk and chew gum at the same time. That isn't athletic.

I think he just doesn't realize how ridiculous this shit is. He made it a tennis ball so it would seem more plausible, but it's still absurd.

I know we have some serious distance runners on the board. I've probably averaged 25 miles a week since I was 19 years old. If it's really warm out and I take three Advil about an hour beforehand and I try to get my best mile, I can probably go 6:30 and I'll be grabbing my fucking socks. Now, if I were lying about it- which I'm not- guys like Zach and benni and badrogue and Telegram Sam and reg wouldn't necessarily think that was bullshit. It's reasonable enough. What bernstein is doing would be like me saying I could run a mile in 4:30. Before I hurt my knee, of course.

You are correct, Spanky. He said that if it was the same 95 mph fastball every time, he would get the timing down, and turn them around.

I would go watch him try that and try not to choke on my beer the one time he miraculously does square one up and it knocks the bat out of his hands.

I think Dan has mentioned having been a semi-good soccer player, which is believable but not all that impressive.
