Once Chicago politics gets involved, nothing but trouble. Ricketts should negotiate from a position of strength. Go build a Wrigley Replica by the racetrack. No more landmark status or other bullshit to worry about.

No

Let's move them somewhere that won't fuck up traffic. I hear Omaha is nice in the summer.

dude they wanted to build the bears stadium in elk grove and i was all for that.... it would have turned elk grove into some sort of a weird supercommercial location and prolly ghetto'd out a few neighborhoods and as an overall fan of entropy it'd be cool to see your little suburb house the chicago bears.

that said, new soldier field is a great place to see a football game. not a bad seat in the house.

I think most Cub fans live north. There is a train that drops you right off, plenty of parking. Knock the track down. It's killing horses anyway. They could set up all kinds of tax breaks with local government.

The Bears are the one team that should be in the suburbs. Should've slapped up a big concrete mediocrity in the 'burbs that fits 90,000 people and ample space to tailgate. You know, precisely what the Redskins have. But noooooo, we have to put the Alien Parthenon on the lakefront so it can sit there unused and ugly for 355 days a year amidst a bunch of buildings that aren't shitty and mostly useless.

The Blackhawks would do well in the 'burbs. It would be very ironic if they leveled every home in Crystal Lake to build them a stadium up there.

This would be funny. CFL had two teams called the "Roughriders" for years.

Actually,I feel Ricketts should have never entered in to talks with the city without holding an Ace in his pocket. Didn't "Uncle Jerry" teach him anything?
I prefer an Arlington Heights rumored move instead of Las Vegas.

i don't think they could draw close to what they draw now...i would not go...i have never been to the new soldier field...have turned a free ticket quite a few times...have no desire to go see the butcher job they did ... the cubs would survive in arlington heights but not pack them in like they do now when the team sucks.

I wish I could say that Arlington Heights never recovered from losing me, but I think the school district got really good right after I left. I went to Prospect Heights schools, anyway.

But they wouldn't do better than they do in a centralized location, so what's your point? Even the Red Wings have the good sense to play right in downtown Detroit, because playing in Auburn Hills would make them virtually inaccessible to people from Windsor.

The only suburban hockey arena I can think of offhand is whatever Ottawa is calling the Palladium this year, and I know people there aren't 100% happy about that one. Especially not good for people in Gatineau. There's also the famously failing jobing.com Arena outside of Phoenix. For now.

Some callers made the point today on B&B that the price Ricketts paid for the Cubs reflected the fair value based on known restrictions (night games, landmark status, etc.) and the cash flow projections that all potential bidders knew about. He got a discount based on those factors. For him to now say or imply that the city should start handing over amusement taxes out of "fairness" is bullshit.

The whole "amusement tax" thing is kinda bullshit, though, one must admit. If Opie were a little cooler, he'd say he should be exempt from the amusement tax this year because there's nothing amusing about watching this team.

you and ben weasel.

there was this longstanding rumor growing up that ben weasel worked at the dunkin donuts in prospect heights. i once had a forum with The Almighty Ben Weasel(tm) and i asked him about that rumor.... he said that it was patently untrue... he MANAGED that fucking dunkin donuts.

notch!

The Dunkin Donuts on Euclid by the Metra station? Pass that all the time! I will today! I'll make sure to think of this as I do.

It seemed like it at the time. I am not sure that is true given the Dodger sale.

Marc Cuban should have been allowed to buy the Cub. He would have paid for Wrigley renovations with his own pocket money.
The White Sox should have built new Cominskey Field in the suburbs. Jerry missed a golden opportunity to expand his fan base & take fans away from the Cub.

I'm sure the Chairman will cry into the pile of money he sleeps on over that.

Rahm has a lot on his plate. NOW is the time to threaten to move to the 'burbs. The big city blows,it's disintergrating from the inside out. Murder,crime,strikes..move to the suburbs and give the Cubs a fresh start.

Crime is down, two public sector strikes have been avoided and murder happens only in about 5 neighborhoods in this city generally
