Karsten Whitson (RHP Florida) and Ryne Stanek (RHP Arkansas) will be the early favorites for 1.1. Ryan Eades (RHP LSU), Adam Plutko (RHP UCLA), Colin Moran (3B North Carolina) and a high school b-otch from Texas or Georgia will also be in the discussion.

Thanks for the info. Are any of them Strasberg or Harper esque?

12 losses in a row. Tell me again there's no such thing as momentum in baseball. This team wakes up every morning knowing they're going to lose a baseball game.

Really? I wonder how many people are going to be out there watching them in August.

hopefully ..like 3k fans ....that would be ideal...so big daddy ricketts can ask his retarded son "what the hell happened to no matter how much they suck people keep coming" this would assure the cubs the 1st pick...and force ricketts to stfu and let epstein clean this shit up with no interference ...

Like it or not, this team is on Epstein's resume. It's not exactly like he let the team get bad to restock the minor league system. Outside of the GREAT Anthony Rizzo the cupboard is pretty bare down there too. What has he accomplished so far other than creating a .300 team? I understand he gets a honeymoon and he can keep telling everyone that the Cubs have been run the wrong way forever and "blah, blah, blah", but they're only three seasons removed from winning 97 games. Theo made the call to give fans one of the worst teams in history. That's on him.

JORR, this is foolish and you know it. Unless you're baiting.

It's also interesting for someone who hasn't been able to complete a sentence in a single post to use the R word. Just f**king saying. But I think the 312 would be offended.

The vast majority of the Cubs section, primarily complaint threads about their record, have been founded and cultivated by Sox fans.

I somewhat agree. There are plenty of Cubs fans that have interesting thoughts as well. I used to love the passion, even if I didn't agree with the overall theory. Lately, it's mostly nonsense. I've taken the Cubs v Sox stuff to task for years. Useless yelling. The people making the most noise know nothing about Baseball. Most of them are barely fans. They might have purchased a Soriano or Konerko jersey at a flea market. Their stupidity gets a Baseball backdrop for a while. The people that are usually arrested or get into fights in the stands are the same dopes that would have done the same thing in a bar that night.

I like the way things are going just fine. I can disagree with just one move Theo and Jed have made to date and that was the Sean Marshall deal. But if Travis Wood turns out to be even a decent 4th starter down the road, it will have been okay. I would MUCH rather they truely suck this year AND next, so that Jed and Theo can have the top picks each year. Then with those choices as well as the guys they will have aquired in trades for guys like Dempster, they should be able to form a good core. After 2-3 years they should be about ready to make some moves (with plenty of money off the books at that point) and fill in the blanks with free agents at positions where they are needed. No reason to worry before Theo and Jed have had a single draft yet. People that want to jump around yelling about how bad things are are goofy. This is a process. It's gonna take a few years, but in the long run, it is the way that teams like the Rays have been able to build successful teams. Long-term success is what they are trying to establish. We have seen many cub teams that were patch-work clubs, built with overpriced free agents that under-performed all too often. It was time for a new and better approach. But it's gonna take a few years.

I'm not baiting. I guess if Theo turns it around in a year or two and makes some progress, then he can sell this brutal season as a necessary evil. But come on, you're a real Cub fan. I would think by now you'd be highly leery of anyone telling you how they're going to fix something and how they're smarter than anyone who has come before. Why would anyone be certain that Theo Epstein is going to do what nobody else has been able to? Seriously. Because he's Jewish?

In the meantime, the Cubs are asking their fans to pay major league prices for a minor league product. It's easy for the television fan to be okay with that. He'll just watch Law and Order or American Idol until they're good again. It may not be as bad for the Cubs as for most teams simply because of their many corporate clients who use the tickets for business or giveaways. Those fans didn't pay anyway so they're probably not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Just enjoying the "Wrigley experience" with little concern about the result.

There's that cliche that "Sox fans don't go when the team sucks". I don't really think Cub fans do either, but the Cubs have sold so many packages to companies that the impact on ticket sales is less. You see the empty seats but the paid attendance is still there.

Pretty funny that you chose this thread, started by a Cubs fan(or at least a White Sox hater), to say this.

Next year will say alot about Ricketts/Theo as they only have 35M in payroll obligations. Will they go cheap and continue the tear down and let the kids play or will they go middle of the road with short term deals to be respectable? An interesting dilemma. I say go young and build for 2015 but will they be able to put up with the media and fan uproar if they lose 100+ this year and next year??

As to empty seats and booing, I fully expect come Sept that they will be lucky to have half the park filled and the booing will be fierce. Yes prob. 70% of the seats will be sold but the actual % of fans in the park will be at best 50%.

I don't have time right now for a full response, but it was all going to come to an overall point that he'll be successful because he's Jewish.

I get what JORR is saying, but I still think a part of him is baiting Cub fans around here. But anyways, fans have hope that someone will eventually get things figured out, that is what fans do. If I stopped having any hope in that I would probably stop caring about sports at all. As a Bear fan I have hope that they will win another Superbowl. As a Bull fan I have hope that they will win another title. As a Cub fan, etc. Theo has proven he can turn things around for a team that had not won a championship in a long time. I get that the situations are different, but there is still reason to hope there that goes beyond the obvious advantage that he is Jewish. :P I would think Sox fans would understand this as well as anyone. It was a long time in between championships for the Sox. Did Sox fans stop hoping after 80+ years of no championship that it would never happen?

Yeah and I think today's sold and empty seat is next year's unsold ticket. Or at least has the potential to be.

Anyway, the Cubs do have a built-in advantage in that they have so many corporate clients that will keep the seats year to year regardless. That gives them a little more leeway in being really bad over a few years. It would be a lot more difficult for the Sox to recover from a season so terrible.

Barring injury Karsten Whitson will be a top pick next year. Whitson was drafted #9 by the San Diego Padres in 2010 but spurned their offer to go to Florida. The Padres GM at the time? Jed Hoyer. The Cubs will obviously have a top pick next year and I know this is putting the cart way before the horse but it will be interesting to see if there is any animosity between the two and if the Cubs and Jed Hoyer decide to go down that path again.

A half dozen or more. Thats less than average and far less than I would go if the team were contending, but I'll still go to some games because I love baseball.

I find it interesting that most people on this board seem to be anti- full rebuild.

And also, it seems White Sox fans are losing their patience with Theo's plan or even more accurate: theyre losing patience with Cub fans having patience for the plan.

I dont get it.

I cant believe people think he should have bought a bunch of shitty veterans to make a run at 81 wins.

I hope/assume the money is allocated other places to making the organization better.

People can say that sounds like bullshit, but its true.

JORR, Ill answer your question about why Theo can do what no one has done.

He's the best option. No one knows what will happen but they guy won with a similiar (in some ways) organization twice recently.

Its like people are saying because one previously successful guy failed, we should stop bringing in people with records of success. Thats silly.

2012 Reverse Standing

Pick Team W L W% GB
1 Houston Astros 34 62 0.354 0.0
2 Colorado Rockies 36 58 0.383 3.0
3 Chicago Cubs 38 56 0.404 5.0
4 Minnesota Twins 40 55 0.421 6.5
5 San Diego Padres 41 56 0.423 6.5
6 Kansas City Royals 40 54 0.426 7.0
7 Seattle Mariners 42 55 0.433 7.5
8 Philadelphia Phillies 42 54 0.438 8.0
9 Miami Marlins 44 51 0.463 10.5
10 Milwaukee Brewers 44 50 0.468 11.0

The Cubs did well this weekend but still couldn't gain any ground on the Astros. The Astros firesale has already begun and the Cubs should be starting any day now. I think the Rockies will fade away once Tulo gets back. This one may go down to the wire.

They are only 16.5 games out. I think they have a chance.
