I have a 2007 Camry which I bought new. It got hit in the back (documented here some time ago) and I had 6000 in damage. As far as putting any kind of money into maintenance,just oil changes so far.

My grandfather died last fall and I ended up with his 2010 Malibu. So far it is doing the job.
I would rather have a Jeep or SUV but for a free car I haven't had any issues.

Buick is trying to be some pseudo luxury brand, and the Regal is priced higher than its features should allow.

And the Malibu is reviewed well? In a vacuum maybe. It consistently lost comparos to other cars in its mid sized segment. The Camry, Accord, Fusion, Sonata, Optima, Altima, Jetta... All of those are (were?) better choices.


No, not in a vacuum, it was reviewed well.

And as for the Regal, you provided zero reasons why it should be avoided.

Huh? Buick has always been a step below Cadillac and a step above most of the other GM brands. This isn't something new. You could call it an "affordable luxury" brand.

Here are some reasons,about 25,000 of them. Why are there so many Camrys on the street? The cars are solid but bland. Not ugly but there are so many on the street,they are no big deal. BUT if you want to save the aggravation of repairs and breakdowns,steer your money towards Toyota. It's your money but Buick,Chevy don't have the rep of Toyota. There is a reason GM almost went belly up.

the gap is gone when I hear of Regals and Mailbus approaching 200,000 miles with few problems. I agree though the gap has narrowed from what I read.

Agreed. The reputation is just that, a reputation. It was certainly earned from cars years ago as was GM's reputation of making poorly built cars years ago.

Today, if you buy anything from a major manufacturer you will be getting a well built car, well, most of the time. The design, engineering comes from the same angles and the parts that are sourced from the suppliers to build the car are used by all of the major players...whether those parts come from Magna, Delphi or Johnson Controls...whatever.

Any car that makes 200,000 miles is much more to do with the owner than the manufacturer.

Oh, and who cares what the review says, you were the one who opined that the Malibu was one of the "Worst Cars of the Decade" Now you are using an article that you cherry pick "Decent" out of to prove your original point that it was one of the "Worst Cars of the Decade", when there were actual 3 different generations of the Malibu in the last 10 years? I love buicks..great cars..i have owned a couple(never new) that 3.8 engine was a beast and runs forever..i had 188k miles on my lesabre before i sold it...i know a few people who have regals with close to 200k they use as work cars...buick makes a quality vehicle... i think the lucerne is gorgeous .... imo the best bang for your buck is probably the sonata.

It is Opel's Epsilon II platform - the Malibu. It shares everything with the Malibu except some external panels and the badge.


That's not a Re-Badge. Malibu - Regal and the rest of the Epsilon II cars are called platform sharing. The platform, dimensions, certain hard points, wiring, and most of the time the top-hat is the same. Every single mainstream manufacturer on the planet does it. If this is your line of thinking than you must really dislike the Lexus ES350.

I was waiting for you to drag this out, problem is the Opel Insignia isn't sold in the U.S. You do realize that Europe and the United States are 2 separate markets, right? Opel's aren't sold in the U.S. (anymore at least) so it doesn't really matter. The Malibu and Regal aren't a re-badge no matter how much you want them to be, sorry, different exteriors, different interiors, different dynamics, trans./susp. calibration etc. And the AN article is old news and has been known for a while, that was the plan...Saturn went under so those cars from Europe needed a home. The auto market is too complex and costly to develop separate platforms for separate markets. I just thought it was common knowledge to anyone paying attention, I guess I was wrong.

It is rebadge because all of the differences (many minor, look at photos) are solely cosmetic. Despite your outright lies, the Regal and Malibu share the same drivetrain.
