Viciedo certainly seems real at this point in his career and Ramirez, despite the slow starts, is certainly a bona fide ML shortstop.

Kudos indeed on these 2 acquisitions.

Are you ready to apologize to Kenny, Robin, and all the White Sox fans you disrespected by making this thread?

The problem with organizational rankings is they're largely based on what a few goofs think about some prospects. And these guys are wrong far more often than they're right. And now every fan reads Baseball America and starts spouting that shit back as fact. The guy who has already done something is almost always better than the guy who has done nothing. I know people love to hope. I know Cubs fans need to hope. But if you really believe that Anthony Rizzo might be better with the stick than Aramis Ramirez, you should probably play the lottery because it's about the same odds. I've seen the Sox stacked with great young arms none of who turned out, while a late rounder who nobody ever mentioned is down in Miami working on winning 200 games. I just wouldn't put much stock in these rankings.

But there is another side to it.

Some people enjoy following prospects of all teams. I do.

Its the same thing as people who love the NFL Draft or watching the Tournament for NBA players.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but I would think that after following them for even a little while, one would be less than confident about his opinions. I think I know baseball pretty well, but I wouldn't have felt really confident telling you six months ago that Dayan Viciedo was a big league player.

And at the risk of another stupid Cubs/Sox thread, I'd say that's the difference between Sox fans getting excited about Beckham and Cub fans getting crazy about Rizzo. Beckham was in the big leagues hitting the shit out of the ball. Now it looks like that was probably a Charbonneauesque mirage, but I think that's a lot different than extrapolating what a guy in AAA is going to do in the majors.

Finally, I find it odd that people watch the NCAA tournament to see future NBA players when the NCAA tournament itself is generally far more interesting than the NBA playoffs have been since the days of Bird and Magic.

Bernstine told me that I am stupid for enjoying the tournament. I'm so conflicted.

It seems to me that when those guys talk about the NBA they're not really talking about the games, they're talking about the players. It's almost as if the NBA is a stage for players to perform great feats and the games are relatively unimportant except as a context for that to occur.

If you go in understanding its a very small percentage that lives up to the hype, overconfidence isnt a problem.

Yeah we already had that thread.

But there's a difference between people who like to follow top 100 prospects and idiots who just try and prop up every draft pick on their favorite team's roster.

Eh...I guess so.

I like the NBA better and always will. There's an exciting easily followable tournament usually containing all the best talents coming into the league. It works well that way for me.

Okay, well, I'm not talking about you personally, but I know plenty of guys who have talked up a prospect and then the guy is a bust and it doesn't stop them from talking up the next goof coming through the system.

Spark, why would you concede that? JORR is posting his opinion as fact (the same shit that SHARK does). Saying that the NCAA is far more interesting than the NBA playoffs since the days of Bird and Magic may be true for JORR, but he's only speaking for himself and shouldn't globalize with a statement like that. The '90s did exist too, and there was some GREAT playoff basketball played then.

It's okay to disagree with him, Spark. Just relax and let it flow.

I conceded nothing. I see why he finds that odd from his perspective.

Thats pretty fuckin disrespectful.

If someone said something like that to you, you'd go crazy on them in a three paragraph rant saying you dont take any shit.

Ill just tell you, you are mistaken. I disagree with JORR a lot. And I dont come to his aid when people criticize him (like you do with your hero Bernstein)

I actually don't aid my "hero" Bernstein either. If you actually read my posts instead of spmack's 1-line cliffnote assessments of them, you'd know that.

But for JORR to definitively say that the NCAA has been more interesting than the NBA in the days of Bird and Magic is something that deserves to be called out for its absurdity. If he uses the word "arguably", it's not even an issue.

Who else do you think I should be speaking for? When bernstein says Hansbrough is "bad at basketball" does that bother you? Because, you know, that's just like his opinion, man.

Yes, you do. You even asked people to disregard the blatant hypocrisy of his ACL article because it was "well written".

And you pretty much ask me "Why?" anytime I say anything about Bernstein

That perception is certainly a lot closer to truth than me always agreeing with JORR

Perhaps, you are the one who needs to read what I write.

It does bother me, because he doesn't elaborate. For some reason you all think I agree with everything the man says, which is false and has always been false.

My bottom line has always been, "Who the fuck gives a shit what Bernstein says?"

I'd put my basketball knowledge against his on any day of the week, but I don't sweat it because I just don't care enough about what he thinks.

No I don't.

That ACL article was me playing up the perception. If you think I didn't see the hypocricy and the irony, then I guess I need to do a better job of making you understand that I "get it".

Most things most of us say are opinions. If you say Scottie is the second greatest Bull (or maybe you'd say he was the greatest) I'm not going to get upset because you state it as fact. I know it's not fact. It's just what you believe. And all opinions aren't equal anyway. Alright, I'll leave you fellas to settle this like gentlemen. I'm going to rub one out to Alexa Chung.

Odd stance to take on a discussion board dedicated to sports radio.

Yet you only espouse that belief when people are ripping him. Never hear you say that when people are praising him or talking about how funny he is.

 That rarely happens. You know that.

Anyway, again...it's the same with the Mike North stuff. The whole board was pretty much about Mike North outside of the MJH section. And I'm not even a Mike North fan; never was, but that made the board kinda suck. Now it's becoming that way again with B&B, and it's starting to suck again. Can't even talk sports anymore without somebody bringing B&B into the conversation.

Sometimes I forget how many similarities we have.

But I logged on, saw JORR's post and saw your response of "Eh, I guess" and I got mad. I thought you should've gone in. It wasn't fair of me to project my thoughts onto you.
