Bernstein on cancer fundraising:
Quote:
Trust me, I know, I'm doing it.

Quote:
We raised 20 on this show in two weeks.

Good to see Bernstein enter the "I raise money for charity, celebrate me!" territory that most public figures eventually do.

Just as I don't give a shit about tv ratings... I do not understand the Cubs ranting either. Keep in mind I am a Sox fan and no nothing about "the culture" but isnt the smart gm staying out of it and the fan owner doing the goat thing? What is wrong with that. If I owned the Sox I'd do whatever the hell I wanted.

Curious good points on the Kaner thing too.

Exactly. Why would a GM even care? It's his job to win games(or in the case of this year, lose as many as possible). He should care as much about the goat as he would a Kerry Wood charity yoga session.

The latest Score meme seems to be to scold Sox fans for not going to the games. This is the same station that spent the entire off-season, spring training, and the first 25 games telling listeners that the Sox were absolute horsehit. Who ya crappin'?

True dat joe. I'll give terry and spegs credit. They were the only one having the Sox at least 500.

If all Steve Goodman ever did was write "City of New Orleans" he'd still be greater than anyone danny bernstein knows.

I really don't get this goat curse hate considering a big reason for doing this was for cancer research.

http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/ ... curse-goat

To be quite honest I find their stance somewhat hypocritical considering the amount of time these guys spend pumping the precious One Step Camp. I guess the One Step Camp has never accepted money from someone doing a bit to try and raise money.

And apparently Dan and Terry's ideal game atmosphere is that of the NBA: go to the game, sit politely, clap when you are supposed to clap, don't boo people, and don't make it about you, because it's about them, not you. This has its merits, but people like having stupid fun sometimes. Sporting events aren't Broadway shows.

No one ever celebrate a win. ever. Don't be a stupid fan and enjoy the freaking game...unless it's the world series.

Walking with a goat to raise money = bad, terrible.
Hosting a gambling tournament to raise money = great, should be commended.

The standard rule is that you can only celebrate championships and free agent signings and trades.

Remember last week when he sniveled on air all week about needing to raise $10,000 to get a $10,000 donation? Great "One Step" got its $20,000 for the kids. I just had to listen to an ass twist, blow and cajole the listeners to get it. Certainly not a shameless act by Bernstein. How the hell is a group of guys raising money in a different way such a bad thing? Hutchinson Cancer Research Center got $20,000 for it's cancer research. I guess those folks research must somehow not be as important since it came from a "tainted" WCUB meme.

Right. I loved it when they acted like no other fan base celebrates a come from behind win by the home team. Simply the stupidest thing they can say. Everyone does it...sans the stupid "w" sign and a song by an awesome dead folk singer.

How does a straight flush get you closer to curing cancer?

Not a bad idea, but you have to have your rant tight if you are gonna do it and I don't. Always room to wiggle or pillory others. These two took some liberties with their ideas today and it became real stupid, but I don't see taking the time to properly debunk B&B's 5/30/2012 thoughts.

It certainly does, but at what cost. I would guess that more lives are being negatively impacted by that poker tournament than the walk with a goat. I've never heard of someone getting divorced or going bankrupt or losing his job because he walked with goats too much.

Still not over it. What a fucking ass bag. That prick pretty much makes me want to boycott any charity he deems worthy and any business associated with said charity. It's not even about WCUB and goat thing. It's really that he doesn't seem to realize his own assedness. Screw Dan Bernstein and any charity the self proclaimed "big shooter" is a part of.

I dont recall turning the show off ever, but this show is sorta going south pretty quickly. I understand they like to be edgy, but its clearly forced, almost scripted. I don't know how many times I have to be told that fans are dumb, I get it, I agree, move on.

I believe I was named vice-president of the B&B ALS, but the show has lost something for me. Just as they doubled down on stupid with Steve Goodman, they do that for pretty much everything. Remember the exchange from the Andrew Shaw suspension:

"Who cares? It's Andrew Shaw."
"Actually he scored a lot for them."
"Ohh, he must be the greatest player ever and on pace for 400 goals."

It's just getting kind of wearying, you know? It's still the best show in town, and they're great when they don't talk sports, but as someone whose primary teams are the Cubs and Blackhawks, I'm not exactly in the right neighborhood, am I?

The goat thing was kinda low rent, even for Berns. Rick summed it up perfectly.

It's becoming increasingly hard for me to listen to this show and I have been there almost from the beginning. One of my first posts here was calling for the breakup of these two. Each would be better served with other partners. Berns is nothing but a sanctimonious penis. My way of raising money for charity is better than yours. What a dick. Fuck off.

I wonder how much money Berns gives to his charity or does he just give of his time...

Yeah. It used to be true based on the show being actually awesome and standing on its own merits of content, humor, non-sports tangents, goofiness etc....Now I'm pretty sure it's the "Best Show in Town" by default. The show kinda sucks now, the same stupid over and over again, it isn't fresh and it has definitely succumbed to a decline in quality. They are now cartoon characters, meatballs and the like. It used to be a show that, at times, was angled at the "smart" side of sports thought....now, it's total meatball. From the lack of knowledge about A LOT of sports things, ignorance on topics DANNY B likes to trumpet and use to make himself look smart etc....yuck.

And you know what? It happens, this show has been around a long while, they are older now, more comfortable and there really isn't anything in the competition or from within the station to light a fire under their ass.

There are still some shows that are really awesome and you don't want to miss a second, but more often than not right when a subject is brought up by BernSTINE or hinted at even you just know the angle, what the meme will be, Dan will yell, Terry will nod along, Goff might chime in. Like clockwork. It's none more apparent then when Hockey Fighting, Bears-Packers Rivalry, SABR or Larry Bird is dug up out of the grave. But again, when a show such as this gets to this point I'm sure laziness and the piece of mind that comes with knowing your boss won't say anything ever and you aren't in danger of being replaced because your station has ZERO talent in the wings.

Oh well. It was a good run, but that run is pretty much over.

And again, that is just my opinion. Blow me!

So let's talk about Dan's Kaner article. As usual, Dan is superficially upset that the Chicago media doesn't cover the Blackhawks like they're a major team. However, when anyone suggests that he devote time on his show to said major league team rather than, say, talking about how when he was in the CBA, Flip Saunders ran a TON of stuff, he pretty much flips his shit and says he doesn't have to because no one cares about the Blackhawks. So why all the dissatisfaction with the Hawks' treatment in the media? Do you not care that at a 20-year-old sports talk station whose personnel more than significantly overlaps that of the city's two (three with the Herald) newspapers, you, too, are the media? Do you really want the Blackhawks to be covered like they're on the same level as the other four teams in town? Or do you want the Blackhawks to be covered only on your terms, which is that their games are insignificant, their league is insignificant, but their visibly sodden punkass of a star player is a transcendent figure in Chicago sports only to the extent that he is a visibly sodden punkass?

That sure is the impression I got when they talked this story to death. A few callers said, "whoa, you guys are talking about hockey" or something to that effect, only to be met with "this isn't about hockey, this is about a Chicago sports figure who is in trouble" or something to that effect. You can't shit on the Blackhawks and their place in Chicago for years and then boil over with righteous indignation that nobody is treating a Patrick Kane misadventure like a Jay Cutler misadventure, or pout about how no one is this easy on "Derrick." Perception is reality, and this station has worked overtime to cultivate the perception that the Hawks don't matter, all the while running counter to the team's post-$Bill efforts to remind Chicago that they in fact do. If you want people to be as upset as they should be that one of the best players on our local team, one whose first five seasons through age 23 have been among the best ever, is in trouble, then you have to give a flying fuck about just how good he is and how important it is that he remain good. And if that's not "adversarial" enough, then it fits right in with every other cozy media-fan-club relationship in this town.
Now thats a great goddamn post right there.

It'd behoove you to jump in while you can, there may not be room in a couple weeks. Dare I say we have a lot of momentum in our favor right now.
