Let me save you the embarrassment of another bad phone call.
Cleveland 14-10
White Sox 15-11
Detroit 11-10

Kansas City and Minnesota(remember when you jumped on that bandwagon): bad.

2009 Sox were 34-38 VS the central
2010 Sox were 32-40 VS the Central
2011 Sox were again...32-40 VS the central

You can take their current record and it's helped greatly by virtue of having just swept the last 5 VS the Twins and Indians and believe they are going to have a better time of it VS divisional opponants. You can also believe that Peavy will be healthy for the whole season. But I believe in the trends both have established and so I believe Peavy will again visit the DL and the Sox will wind up once again with a losing record against divisional foes, which will be the difference in deciding the division.

What does 2009, 2010 or 2011, have anything to do with the current teams likelihood of making the playoffs?

What's that? Nothing. Right.

Just admit that it was a bad thought that you didn't research and move on.

 Backtrack alert. You mentioned nothing about previous years before.

And yes, that record was helped by sweeping the first place Indians. It was also aided by them scoring more runs than the opponent in 15 games.

I believe his point in bringing up '09, '10, and '11 is to say that the roster itself hasn't been much different from year to year with a few exceptions, thus the likelihood for the Sox to suck against the division is still there.

I'm not saying I agree, but I think that's what he was going for. Maybe.

That would be correct. The fact that the Sox took the lat 5 VS the Twins and Indians turned a losing record into a respectable one for this season. But with the same club in place (for the most part) that has struggled within their division the past several seasons, I expect them to revert back to the form previously established. The one major difference nobody is pointing out, is the manager. That is one significant difference. But is he a better manager that will be able to get more from these players? I don't think so, but time will tell.

Besides, won't it be more fun if the Sox should win the division, if I was saying all year that it won't happen? If I were saying I believe that it will happen...the opportunity to rub it in IF it does is missing.

I don't believe you. If you were simply referring to past seasons then you would have made that at least a little bit clear.

Just be honest. You didn't realize the Sox had a good record in the division. It's ok. You've made lots of mistakes on here before. You'll make more in the future.

Really? You mean a winning streak gets you a better record?

I suppose you are the type to say that "if you take away that 12 games losing streak, the Cubs are a respectable team"

I can't believe you're as stupid as your post would have one believe. In fact, I know you're not so what the fuck are you doing?

It's a fucking baseball discussion man. I didn't come to anybody's aid. I just explained what the fuck he might have been saying in his post and I made it clear that I didn't necessarily agree. C'mon man, I'm tired of explaining myself today.

Well, I don't believe that you really don't believe me. I think you would just RATHER believe what works better for your argument. You have always been one that likes to TRY to read things into posts and omit that which doesnt fit your argument. By the end of this season we will see if the team's record is similar within the division to the record they have amassed over the past several seasons.

All this arguing is pointless. The Sox are doing exactly what I said they would do.

I would respond, but I can't detect any actual content here to respond to. I do agree though. This season will in fact happen and then we'll be able to see the results.

I just think Steve was trolling, and you kinda gave him an "out" which is didn't believe but went with it to make his thought seem respectable.

I thought it was pretty clear that Steve was talking about this team having a bad record against division opponents this season. He just happened to be wrong, but nobody ever admits that around here. You just keep going with it...

So, we are to believe that in the statement above, Steve starts out talking about the current season and somehow transitions into a discussion of the past few years without even indicating that he was doing so. No mention of "historically" or "recently" or anything like that. Steve thought the Sox had a bad record this season. He probably thought of just not responding after he was proven wrong with.....facts....but when presented with an out, took it and ran with it. Again, very few people ever admit to being wrong around here.

But Eye Van, Steve already clarified what he meant!!! That it took the Sox to win 5 in a row to get a good record in the division! Apparently, going on a prolonged winning streak gives you a better record! Seriously, I had no idea that has been happening with the Sox. I thought they were winning all these games and still had a poor record in the division! I mean hell, they have only beaten the Indians 8 fucking times already this season!

Steve was wrong- again- and that's the end of that chapter.

I don't know if it was said in this thread, but Steve did indeed call in to CJH that day (Tuesday I believe?) and read almost verbatim that post about previous year's records. He somehow tied that in to Ventura and addition by subtraction with Ozzie. Again, it was a really long call and the hosts didn't really respond to it at all when he was done.
