I'm a fan of a baseball team. How the fuck is a dog and pony show conducted by the organization at all reflective of me as a fan?

The collective you cheered for it further rewarding the bad behavior

Christ, you're really reaching now. How does said behavior affect what goes on between the lines?

The problem is that Bernstein added absolutely nothing to the conversation. Boers effectively delivered his disgust for these walking rectums with his trademark misanthropic sense of humor. Then Bernstein used the opportunity of the topic coming up to hector for no point other than he's obsessed with showing how smart he believes himself to be.

I don't remember the athlete, maybe it was Tebow, or Lance Armstrong, or someone else but I seem to remember a time when Bernstein got upset when people would mention how much money he made for charity. I believe his exact words were that a lot of athletes do that and most of them do it silently. That's a valid point.

Yesterday, he used his own charitable doings to bash another charity and make it clear that he thinks he did it better than them. He had the audacity to bash another group that worked far harder and did something far more time consuming than he ever has done. Using your radio show to ask for donations isn't exactly equal to walking across the country. Attending some meeting where you probably eat good food and mingle with local celebrities isn't that tough.

I hate it when people bash other charities and put whatever they deem worthy above them. He should have been ecstatic that someone was able to turn something stupid into something that can do some good. Of course the goat is stupid. So is watching the NFL draft. So is attending Bears mini-camps and training camp. Most of the things we do are stupid. I once attended a charity event that the whole goal was to provide unlimited alcohol to 20 somethings. It was massive. I can only imagine that it made tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Is that better or worse than walking with a goat? I'm sure it was more fun.

In conclusion, any charity that uses gambling to help fund itself should not look down on most other ways of raising money. Not that there is anything wrong with gambling, but I think most people would agree that in terms of "morality" that it is low on the list of actions that a charity should be using.

I didn't hear it, but if Danny really said that shit then fuck him. Of course the goat is stupid, and the Cubs probably shouldn't have really "honored" the walk they way they did, but those four guys did raise over $20k....so, good for them.

If they each worked at mcdonalds for the two months they could have made the 20k, donated the money, gotten a tax write off and probably have mcdonalds match the amount.

It should be embarrassing to cubs fans. It would be like me getting io konerko et al to throw a game, laying 20k on it, then donating the winnings

Thanks for the heads up. I just filled out my McDonald's application this morning. I've been in the wrong line of work all this time.

 What?

And now we are building a nice false perception that Cub fans were all for these guys (your heroes) because the 18K cub fans that happened to be at that game didnt boo a bunch of cancer survivors raising money for cancer research.

Good times

You obviously haven't ordered 3 McDoubles and rearranged them into 2 McTriples.

In this economy, you don't think all five could get jobs, do you?

I'm sure their frat brothers could have found them something.

I doubt even managers at McDonald's are pulling down $12.50/hour.

Try again, Daddy Warbucks.

My calculations are off. This was not a two month odyssey. This was over 3 monts (100 days). So, each of them would have had to earn a grand total of $40 per day or $5 per hour based on an 8 hour work day. They could have taken their goat and panhandled for that money next to the guy who panhandles with his dog or the woman who does it "to feed my kitties".

Time was I would read about something like this that B&B were ranting on and find the podcast to properly inflame my predicted outrage. Sometimes it's therapeutic to work up a good rage. Feels good. Cleansing.

I don't care enough anymore. I'm going to read a book instead.
