Without question the best all-time panelist on Match Game and its various incarnations.

i thought this guy died years ago..i have seen the old feuds and he is the best host they ever had...i wonder how many broads he banged from that show..he was pretty bold kissing and touching contestants with their husband standing next to them.

I knew when I saw who the author of this thread was that Jimmy wouldn't let me down and would go with "Survey says! Dead!"

Thank you for that gift, Mr. Pasta.

an all-timer, no doubt
his farewell epilogue on Family Feud was somewhat over the top but touching too ...kinda explained why he kissed everyone . seemed like a real genuine guy

Running man as social commentatry is vastly underrated. Smarmy host playing up the crowd and audience as contestants kill each other? Dawson should have been the blue haired guy in the hunger games. Dawson was the best on match game. I seem to remember him actually smoking on the show.

I think they all would take a drag when they thought the camera wasn't on them.

He gives a very heartfelt farewell speech on his last day of hosting Family Feud, worth a you tube look if you care to.

Richard Dawson was quite the player. He got more poon that one Man should get.

However, the best host of Family Feud is the new host, Steve Harvey. He is hilarious. He makes fun of bad answers & is very entertaining.

Right now, I wonder if GSN bosses out in Southern California are planning to air classic "Match Game"/"Family Feud" marathons in Richard Dawson's memory. The SONY-owned "Network for Games" airs BOTH shows now at 7a weekdays for an hour.

Speaking of "Match Game", it only seems fitting that Dawson, Brett Somers & Charles Nelson Reilly, the original 3 regular panelists, along with host Gene Rayburn & announcer Johnny Olsen are playing the classic '70s game show right now somewhere in heaven.

As for that heartfelt goodbye to the original "Family Feud" back in 1985, it sounded like this....

This might be the all time greatest moment in Family Feud history.

That's not what I remember. I think there was a great deal of jealousy that contestants always picked Richard Dawson in the big money "Super Match" during the bonus game, but Brett Somers & Charles Nelson Reilly hated each other to a point where Charles actually took some time off of the classic game show in 1975. That may explain why "M*A*S*H" star Gary Burghoff sat in Charles' seat for a few weeks that year on "Match Game".

Yup. They were all shitfaced too. :drunken:

My favorite Family Feud moment was when a contestant was asked to name a famous Rudolph and the dolt answered Hitler.

Brett Somers (former wife of Jack Klugman) stated in no uncertain terms during a Match Game retrospective a few years back (on the Game Show Network?) that they couldn't stand Richard. I was a bit taken aback by the comment as they all seemed to get along.

I was under the impression there was a degree of jealousy. I also thought Brett & Charles didn't get along at times...

Brett & Charles just had a little game going. She was the Karen to his Jack. (God, did I just make a Will & Grace reference? I need a life.) They all were jealous of Richard because the contestants always picked him. And he probably fucked all of them and refused to call the next day.

I always got that there was problem with Dawson w/ the match game. Dawson acted like he was the attraction and the one that was wise and all-knowing.

You knew this was coming... GSN is planning a special night in memory of Richard Dawson with a classic "Family Feud" marathon Thursday night from 6-10p on DIRECTV 233. The special 4-hour tribute includes the classic "September" episode in which a contestant answers the question "During what month of pregnancy does a woman begin to show?" during the "Fast Money" bonus game that prompted one of the funniest sequences in "Feud" history. It'll also feature a 1981 episode in which Dawson actually met his second wife Gretchen, whom he'd marry 10 years later, the emotional final ABC episode from 1985 featuring the clip I linked a while back, plus Richard's return to the game show on CBS in 1994. This is the press release...
