Los Angeles and New York are on opposite sides of the continent. Everyone in between gets involved! See, when you had San Francisco and Dallas in the World Series, that was big for Denver, but it left the entire east coast out!

But if you go the other way from LA to NY you would get the whole world watching but nobody in North America. Maybe they need to change the direction of the satellites??

So hockey won't be higher rated that the third highest rated basketball finals of the year and the draft lottery? That sucks for hockey.

That's SHARK to you, Mister. I'm only kidding...

Seriously, I'm a little surprised that the Stanley Cup Finals matchup between the Devils & Kings hasn't been as good as I hoped at least. According to SHARK's go to guy on this subject, CNBC's Darren Rovell, NBC's overall Stanley Cup ratings across their family of networks this year on the whole has been higher, and keep in mind that this was the very first year that NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC & NHL Network had broadcasted every single game of the quest for Lord Stanley's Cup since NBC Sports extended their NHL contract in the offseason.

Want more? The Stanley Cup Finals were actually beat by not just the NBA Draft Lottery, but Game 2 of the Celtics/Heat Eastern Conference Finals that ESPN aired shortly thereafter, and in the New York/New Jersey & Los Angeles markets to boot.

So the majority of the people in this highly intelligent country don't like hockey. Who cares? The majority of the people in this country elected George W Bush. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the majority.

I've said my whole life that when I find myself on the opposite end of the spectrum as the majority that means I'm doing something right.

Again, SHARK, it goes back to what I said.....although the Devils are technically in the New York market, it is not a "New York" team, per se. It is a New Jersey team. And add that to the fact that the 2 New York teams (Islanders and Rangers) are not in the Finals, so the last thing a New Yorker wants to do is watch the little team in New Jersey try to win it all.....

Spmack, the Devils are treated as if they are a New York team.

Yes and no. They're in the New York media market, but their media coverage pales in comparison to that of the Rangers and other New York sports team. Their fans are mostly in the North Jersey suburbs, and even there, they're splitting that territory with the Rangers.

And while we're at it, the Islanders aren't really a New York team, either. They're a Long Island team, with little market penetration in the outer boroughs and even less in Manhattan, North Jersey, Westchester, or Fairfield. They suffer from the same woes as the Devils, but even worse, because their arena is crumbling as we speak.

Guys, you are correct. The New York Islanders are trying to get out of their lease at their longtime home arena in Uniondale, but I think they've run into a lot of opposition from what I've read trying to get Joe Taxpayer to finance a new building for them.

It was supposed to be a play on words...the whole Joe Fan thing. There's a lot of opposition, and I thought I also heard issues with absestos in that same arena the Islanders want to get out of, too.

Tony Soprano can help them with that abestos dumping problem....But not the Ziggy Wilf looking Tony Sparano.

Joe Sixpack and Joe Taxpayer don't even watch hockey. Have you taken a look at those ratings?

I think the northern suburbs are more the bailiwick of Rangers fans. Devils country is basically Kevin Smith country: central Jersey, especially toward the shore.

I figured North Jersey was split by now, and South Jersey is all Flyers without a second thought. Never even gave consideration to the rest. No wonder no one goes up to Newark for games, then.

And yeah, the Nassau Coliseum is horrendous. It's small by modern standards, it only has one concourse for both decks, the roof leaks, there's an asbestos problem, and most ridiculously of all from day one, they built this arena in the metropolis with the most comprehensive railroad system in the nation and it's completely inaccessible by train. I'd love for the Isles to get their shit together, but between Nassau County's NIMBYism and its impenetrable ziggurat of redundantly tiered local government, nothing ever gets accomplished there. That and they're broke anyway. Their owner, who sounds uncomfortably identical to Woody Allen, wants to build this giant complex of hotels and shopping around the new arena--JUST LIKE IF THE CUBS MOVE TO ROLLIN' MEADOWS!--when neither he nor the governmental ziggurat could afford anything more than the same sort of bare-bones, no-frills rink that the Nassau Coliseum is. What a fucking mess.

So you imagine. There are bucketloads of commuters from Jersey who come in every day. (And other bucketloads from Long Island.)

That's probable news to people in Long Island... Kyle Okposo deserves better.
