Seems to be the opinion of Mully and Hanley. Their first pick, a Scott Boras client, is already holding them up. Almora stated he is ready to go to the University of Miami on a full ride scholarship, which would would make his selection by the Cubs null and void. He wants more than the $3.25 million that his draft slot calls for. If the Cubs cave and give him more, that affects how much they can pay the other picks.

Mully is way out over his skis (thats a funny visual)

If they sign him, its fine. Mully is probably the most anti Cub guy at the station

This year's baseball draft has gotten more airtime on the radio in Chicago than the past 3 or 4 drafts combined.

"oooh, Theo picked this kid!" "wow, the Sox pick did a backflip!"
Who fuckin cares? Let it playout and see what happens. Its not like this kid is not gonna be on the big league club tomorrow.

Exactly. You are somehow becoming a voice of reason in the Cubs section and the world just doesn't quite feel right.

The Almora's comments are called negotiating. They have until July 13th to get him signed. M&H are again hilariously overreacting and creating stories when they don't exist. I'm assuming you listened to the same segment as I did with venerable baseball big shot Phil Rogers

Why anyone would give credence to something coming from Mully, Hanley, or Phil Rogers is a mystery.

Honestly, putting aside the terrible comedy, I think Hanley knows sports.

He had a terrible one this morning about Burgess Meredith. Im not gonna recap it.

If he did, it's part of the strategy and was done intentionally.

If he didnt, he's still a talent less hack who only won because he spent so much money

They'll get him signed. Remain calm, all is well.

The kid can't be drafted much higher in future years, so there is a possibility he won't get paid any more money in the future. He would be a fool not to sign and risk fucking up his draft status in college.

Every high school player in the draft is committed to a college and it's highly unlikely has a full ride. He's gonna sign.

#1 pick Carlos Correa is also committed to the University of Miami and there's talk he could be signed as quickly as tomorrow.

He will sign and it will drag out to the last day in all probability.

OMG the Cubs haven't signed their first round pick yet and it's been over 36 hours already....relax. I'm glad they picked the guy that was rated highest on their board even if it means dealing with Boras, rather than picking a lesser talent to avoid the agent. Negotiations may take a while, but there is no reason to believe it won't get done. As far as the draft as a whole, we will know in about 3-4 years how well they did on that.

I have my criticisms of Epstein, but does anyone really believe that he would have taken this kid if there was any chance he wouldn't sign.

It is the first year with these draft rules (limits) and Mully was acting as though the Cubs were the only ones in this situation. Granted, the kid's comments were coming from a negotiating stance, but his "take" on this is laughable.

By the way JORR....I'm thinking HOF for this kid!!!

He is going to wait 3 years so he can be drafted 5 spots higher and get virtually the same money??? Shut the fuck up Mully. Go lick the sac of your favorite sauced pitching coach and stay out of Cubs business.

They have until the 13th of July to sign all their picks. They'll be fine, primarily because:

Why Theo's walking to Detroit or Milwaukee is beyond me.
