Word on the street is that if anyone actually wins the Triple Crown, the ground is going to open up and swallow the winning horse like in the last scene of Indiana Jones and the Quest of the Holy Grail. The trainers just didn't want to take that chance.

It's too bad Peter Falk died last fall. This has the makings of a "Columbo"-style mystery.

It's Rosemont where they're at, even though the SCORE's much-maligned Web site said Des Plaines when I was there this morning.

Here:

I'll Have Another is an injury prone colt, as evidence by multiple scratches even before today. He hasn't turned in an official workout since the Kentucky Derby, which was five weeks ago now. They've handled him with kid gloves since the Preakness and haven't turned him loose at all. It's not crazy to think that, you know, an injury is just an injury, especially since THESE ARE FUCKING THOROUGHBREDS YOU STUPID FUCKERS. THEY GET INJURED ALL THE TIME. Besides, at least get the smears right; O'Neill isn't accused of being a steroid pumper, just a doper. There's a difference. Learn it, Mr. Science.

In any event, Bernstein read something in a magazine once about this, and Boers used to bet standardbreds a lot in the 80s, so I expect some high level analysis of the sport in the future.

Don't they put something called Lasix in some of these horses?

They put Lasix in practically all of the horses, and it's perfectly legal. It is marked in the program and everything.

Dont forget that Triple Crown or not this horse is fucking gold. All he has to do is fuck at more than 100K a pop. Business baby. Oh wait lets run him for Bernsie and then put him down and lose millions. I have no love for horse racing but i do respect that its a fucking business for sure.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. He won't get that much but he'll make plenty over the first couple of years at stud, plus the owners will probably syndicate him at a set rate. If he was literally just about any other horse he'd probably run. But he's worth millions more at stud then he could ever make on the track, and that's that.

What's a real bummer is that there's no reason to tune into NBC5 or listen to the live audiostream on 670 The SCORE's page at CBSchicago.com late tomorrow afternoon upon the news of I'll Have Another being scratched. They were hyping it as if it really mattered.

It will still absolutely demolish the NHL Finals. Not to turn this into yet another bashing of hockey thread, as fun as they are, but people will still watch.

Pretty sure Urlacher's already on the case.

Why do you think the Thunder are so good this year?

Irish Boy, the Belmont Stakes is late in the afternoon while Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals drops the puck around 7p. It is an absolute letdown...That's for sure.

Shark, I will wager you sand dollars (get it?) that the Belmont outdraws the hockey game. It won't be close.

It's a huge disappointment, but you're acting like all of a sudden it's just the 5th race at Hawthorne.

I think a rerun of the Belmont Stakes would beat the SC Finals.

Game 7 of Celtics/Heat tomorrow on the four-letter network Bernsy refers to as "the Booyah Network" might outdraw both the Belmont & Game 5 of Kings/Devils tomorrow.

I think the Thunder are good because they are more of a team (gasp) it matters. Also, quite frankly, I think Durant is and will be better than James can hope to be. I posted earlier IMHO James will be Gervin or Wilkins.... A memory of nothing.

Kevin Durant has more upside and appears to be a lot more likable than LeBron. By the way, can LeBron shave off that awful hair on his chinny chin chin? By cracky! Thank you!

I get the feeling that Bernstein thinks the Thunder are undeniably better than the Heat because they just finished a high-scoring series with not great defense by either team. And Heat-Celtics is an ugly, defensive series, so of course they look worse.

I do favor the Thunder in that matchup, but they aren't going to be shooting 52.1 Effective FG% against the Heat.

Did Bernstein just refer to actor Ed Harris as his friend? They closer than Dah Mahhneeel and Billy Peterson?

Wouldn't a real manly man like Bernsy use hardwood briquettes rather than propane?

Heat-Thunder isn't likely to be won or lost by the Thunder because their superstars outplay or get outplayed by the Heat's superstars.

Thunder beat the Spurs because Thunder players 3 through 7 outplayed the Spurs 3 through 7.

...Plus, Oklahoma City made the necessary adjustments after losing the first 2 in San Antonio. They never looked back.
