We have some of the same issues. I'm working on it but my dog is all kinds of naughty. I know having 2 things to fetch has helped...she almost has it now. Throw one when he wanders off with it, start playing with the other one and get him interested. When he becomes interested throw it. He'll go after it and abandon the one he was keeping. Pick that one up and repeat the cycle.

Other than that I've been told it's a matter of them aging and repeating. I'm not sure she knows I'm above her in the pack order and she can be a bully. I'm thinking about a doggie boot camp or whisperer too.

Having two things for fetch definitely helped. We learned that early on.

My dog is fully aware my girlfriend and I are the boss, or seems to be, but the problem is we have to raise our voices to almost a yelling pitch for him to respect our commands. Saying it sternly usuall won't cut it. That's another thing I'm getting frustrated on trying to change.

He's also bad with people, jumping on them and acting crazy around them, but we only have people over every couple months and don't go to a dog park often so he doesn't have enough experience win strangers yet.

I've heard the age and repeat thing often also, I was just wondering if there's something I'm not doing or doing wrong since he's not making much progress the last six months or so. I still have to remind myself that he's not even a year old yet.

A regular park or busy neighborhood with lots of people around that he can't go near will help him get used to others. Making her follow commands for everything, sitting before going outside, stopping and staying periodically during walks, putting stuff on the ground for leave it all day everyday has helped us. It's hard but people keep telling me it gets better.
