Heyman tweeting a 9 year deal

Important to remember that Soler really hasn't played organized ball in a long time with this residency stuff.

That's a fucking eternity for a baseball contract.

I'm really confused now with this deal. I thought it was four years, with the actual years starting at his major league call up. Essentially a six or seven year deal. Nine years thirty million can't be correct.

RT @BradleyAnkrom: When the (reported) nine-year deal for Soler ends, the Mets will still have 14 more years of paying Bobby Bonilla.

Being 9 years confirmed, there's no chance he'll be in Peoria this year. They are going to take their time which they should. If he and Baez met in Peoria, Baez's development is going really badly

He will certainly get sent to XSP, but if he performs really well, he could make Peoria by the end of the year. Look for him in Boise, though.

He's probably about 3 years away by most of the things I have read.

They started Concepcion in Peoria, right? Why not start Soler there?

He hasn't played organized ball in about a year due to his residency issues.

He started at XSP and then went to Peoria.

Depending on when the Cubs think he is ready to play organized ball, he will end up at Peoria or Boise based on how much playing time he will get by the end of the year, is my guess.

This is nothing official, just two minutes of scribbling.

1 500
2 1.0
3 1.5
4 1.5
5 2.5
6 4.0
7 5.0
8 6.5
9 7.5

By the last year of the deal, he would be a 28 or 29 year old, five tool corner outfielder. He's probably three years older, but this still looks incredible. If he sucks, you would dump thirty million pretty easy in free agency, especially in nine years.

30 million over the course of 9 years is nothing for a team like the Cubs. I like it.

Exactly. I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing. It seems too good to be true.

Hell yes. I've been tracking this all day and then when I leave for an hour it happens. Getting that many years is huge.

I would say AZL with a few weeks in Boise for this year, Peoria and Daytona next year. He should be ready about the same time as Baez.

I am liking an outfield of Soler, Amora and Jackson in 2015 with Szczur holding down the Reed Mantle role.

Did Scottie Pippen negotiate that contract?

Soler could make a lot more than $30 million over next 9 yrs, because he can opt out of contract altogether during his arb-eligible years.

OK. This makes more sense.

The deal that Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler signed with the Cubs on Monday could be worth significantly more than the stated terms - $30 million over nine years.
Once Soler becomes eligible for salary arbitration, he will have the right to choose arbitration instead of the annual salaries specified by his contract, according to a major-league source.
In other words, if Soler develops into a productive major leaguer, he can opt out of the financial terms of his deal and negotiate even better salaries with the Cubs.
Soler, 20, is likely to begin his career in Single A. He could be several years away from the majors. The year-by-year breakdown of his salaries is not yet known.
But if, for example, Soler made his major-league debut in 2015, he would become eligible for arbitration for the 2018 season. If he figured to receive a higher salary in arbitration than the number mandated by his contract, he would simply choose arbitration.
On the other hand, Soler will be protected if he does not develop as expected, drawing the annual salaries that he negotiated into his deal – and getting no less than $30 million either way.

Soler could be a huge piece for the future. But it's going to take a couple years before we know how this works out. I remember how excited people were about getting Fukudome and that didn't work out so well. Hopefully they hit on this one. With all the CF prospects they have now, one of them ought to work out. If all 3 do, they could have one hell of a defensive outfield.

I was in the car around 6:45 yesterday evening and I was listening to Holmes on the score and some dude called up all pissed off that he was even talking about Soler and the Cubs. Larry being his usual snarky self tried understand why the guy was so pissed. The caller didn't want to hear about Soler, so Holmes kind of gave him the business and said it was news today and shouldn't he be allowed to talk about a local baseball team signing a prize prospect and neither team was playing tonight? Sometimes Holmes isn't a bad listen on the radio and this was one of the times.

The amount of 'Soler' Power type jokes heard on M&H this morning wanted me to drive into oncoming traffic.

Plus, no one is using the best one yet. Han Soler.
