No, I'm not leasing, I'm not getting a new hatchback, I'm not taking interesting trades, and I'm not looking for a LeBaron or a snowmobile.

My budget is $2500-3000. I know that isn't much. Appearances don't mean a whole hellava lot to me. The transmission gave out on my Contour, so I'm looking for something that I can just get a few years out of. In the past 33 months, I have put slightly over 18,000 miles on that car and a good chunk of that was driving to band practice out in Roselle 3-5 times a month. So as you can see, I don't really drive a whole bunch.

I just need a stop gap car that I can get like 15-25K miles out of that is fairly reliable. I don't want to have car payment because I've got a wedding and a house to pay for, so I'd rather a car free and clear. I get to use a work vehicle Mon PM thru Fri AM so I only need my car to get to and from work once a week, and for light use on the weekends. Also, doesn't have to be a car. I'd rather not get a gas guzzler, but a small SUV (Blazer, explorer, pickup etc) would be ok too.

If anybody knows somebody looking to get rid of a halfway decent car on the cheap, or knows of a dealership where I might be able to find something, let me know.

Oh....and I know there will be jokes in this thread. I trust that there might be a couple of serious replies, or they will otherwise be PM'ed to me.

Sucks, doesn't it? You have a long haul to work though. I'm lucky that I get to use my work van. That has easily allowed my Contour to last a solid 2+ years longer than it normally would have.

Yeah...knock on wood I haven't had any major problems...I think it's the starter this time. I have wound up with an unplanned 4 day weekend out of it, but I'm frustrated...don't really want a car payment right now, either.
