No, I was not stealing boxes. But yes, I got fired on a couple of Friday's ago when I had taken a PTO day. I was the 2nd shift manager at the local salt mine. Had just gotten a raise two months earlier. My #2 on the shift staging a mutiny because he wanted my job and promotion.(a position he had been previously passed over for)

I had asked the general manager the day before my termination if my job was in jeopardy. He directly said, "No, I would of come to you first." So he was gone for the day on that Thursday afternoon and Friday morning he texted me, "Sorry to bother you on your day off. Please call me when you have a moment." I knew at that moment I was a goner.

So I made the call, he said my position has been eliminated and when asked, there is no other role for me in the company. Ouch babe. It was awesome to go to the charity golf tournament at McHenry Golf Club(why I took the day off work), meet my girlfriends extended family and tell them when asked what do I do, that I just got fired form my job before heading up there.

I shot about a 150 if not for the best ball format. Joined up with the group in front of us on 17th hole, managed to hit the tee out from under the ball and have the ball drop straight to the ground. It was even bett that about 15 people saw me do it. Was able to redeem myself by nearly hitting hole in one on the 170 yard 18th hole. The tee shot on 18 got a rise, "oohs and ahhs" from the crowd that just saw me whiff the tee shot on the hole before. Missed the hole by about a foot, which would of been $500 since the ace would of counted as a skin. And of course my group all missed the easy birdie to finish the round.

Filed for unemployment and have started asking around for leads and shaking down the people I know for cash. Have some things lined up and my friends told me to enjoy the summer and come back to being a day person again. Had to share with the crowd, maybe now I'll be posting at some other time than 3am. Also be able to resume my multing career. Hard to troll when you have to wait 10 hours for a response. So yeah, that happened.

Yes, it's miles below the earth. Connects to the salt mine under Detroit.

Been through it a couple of times. Sucks, but there's a decent chance you'll wind up in a better situation anyway.

Don, I am curious, it sounds like you knew it was coming. There must be more of a back story. Please share, if you don't mind.

Sorry to hear Don....hope you can find another job soon. Bitch ass move to be fired via phone/text on your day off.

In a similar bitch ass move.....years ago, we were taking part in playing a benefit at Bourbon St. We were one of the first bands to go on, and the 'headliner' was a fairly well known cover band, I guess. I had never heard of them, but they had a pretty decent following. Anyway, we were hanging out backstage and some dude in a suit walks up to their guitarist and serves him some legal papers. He knew it was coming, kinda chuckled, but said to the guy, "what kind of punk ass motherfucker shows up to serve papers while we are playing a benefit."

Not that its ever a good feeling to get fired (or get sued), but you really don't need that extra kick in the balls to have it done over the phone while at a charity event.

Yeah, the environment was becoming toxic and tainted. There was another middle management guy there that I did not like and tried to bully me around. I had stood up to other bullies there before and it came out positive for me. This time it did not work. My only mistake was not being more active seeking new gigs before I got clipped.

I had heard rumors "they" were coming for me and such that I needed to cower to one of the new managers. I did not play ball, appreciate the constant use of foul language, or want to talk about fantasy fan fiction. That guy seemed to think I was a threat since I wasn't laughing at his stupid jokes and my #2 would giggle all the time like he was hopped up on pills.

Thought I had the right people in high places to be my support. It was just weird to go from raise to fired in two months. I am glad I'm not there anymore and able to seek out something new. Just never got the confrontation/talking to that usually proceeds discipline or termination. Fucking cowards.

 No, not that day. It probably would have been better than my wedge shot. I'll have to look into using it next time.

Sorry to hear, Don. You should try to get some investors together and open up your own pepper mine right down the street.

That sucks. Enjoy the time off and good luck finding what comes next.

Now I feel like a dick for giving you so much shit over that guy that keeps pming his nascar picks as that would have been around the same time as your "day off".

You could start broadcasting the nationwide and truck races now!!

I find this totally fascinating - how many miles is that?

It really goes from Illinois to Detroit? :o :o :o

I'll stop this here. Where I worked was in fact not an actual salt mine. Just an euphemism I used to describe where I worked. There is a giant salt mine under the city of Detroit.

Sorry to hear that, Don. :(

At least your name is getting out there on the radio as I heard Mac mention you today.....word of mouth, bud....word of mouth. I'm quite confident you'll find something soon. My cousin works for Nascar on one of the driver's private planes....let me see what I can do......of course he works somewhere in North Carolina, so not sure how you feel about re-locating.
