The movie isn't a masterpiece nor perfectly written but the story is there for you, just pay attention.

Yeah, well, using my brain is how I arrived at the conclusion that characters which fear dead aliens yet are totally amused by scary-looking, hissing live aliens makes no sense. Or characters which run parallel with a rolling ship, instead of perpendicular to it. Or that it makes no sense for the team to be briefed on the planet, after years of being in suspended animation. Or that it's awfully strange that a crew member is zombiefied, kills several other crew members and must be killed with a flamethrower, yet no one seems to mind. Or that one crew member had to have an alien extracted from her body, but fails to mention that to anyone else. Or that a company makes a ultra-expensive, super-advanced surgery machine that only operates on males.

There's just tons of shit that makes no sense in the movie. It's just a series of things that happen, with little consistency between those things. It's just lazy writing, plain an simple.

i can see what red letter was saying...there are an awful lot of plot holes. but i really believe just about any sci-fi movie is littered with them. i'm sure if the original "alien" was released as a new movie now there'd be just as much crap given to it. some of the points are valid.

it still doesn't take away from my enjoyment of it overall. i'd like to watch it again, even. i just was disappointed with the treatment of the characters, and a few of the plot holes did give me some groans.

The table was setup for Old Man Weyland.

Well, that's the thing: the plot holes would be more excusable, except that the movie never really goes anywhere. By the end, you're basically back to where you started. For me, there's not much re-watch value there. I could excuse plot holes if it had anything interesting to say; if they were a means to some greater end. But they're not. There's not a ton of cinematic value in this film; it doesn't have great dialogue, it doesn't have great action; it has a couple pretty good performances, but the overall acting doesn't knock your socks off.

I understand that. But the machine claims to be incapable of operating on women. It says it's a male-only unit. Who would build such a thing?

You've just described almost every single science fiction movie ever made.

When Alien and Bladerunner were released they got universally panned.

Prometheus is actually garnering solid if mixed reviews. Again, no masterpiece or even a "great" film but what are you gonna do.

If it makes enough it will have 2 more movies. Also, there is about 30 min of footage that will be added to the Blu-Ray release. Maybe more going by how many times Ridley Scott likes messing with his movies....Blade Runner I'm looking at you.

"blade runner" needed some help. getting rid of that awful narration was a start. and that movie is still imperfect, as stellar visually as it is. but scott is no lucas, that's for sure.

Not really. Take The Matrix, for example. It had a really interesting idea, and it had great action. The acting wasn't great, and the dialogue wasn't great, but it had great special effects, and the basic plot and the action carried it. There's none of that with Prometheus. The idea isn't really novel, and the action isn't great. There's just not much there.

This about sums it up: http://youtu.be/-x1YuvUQFJ0

Why are the white aliens tall and jacked while we are small fat asses. Why are the engineers white but the evil alien offspring black. Why is a woman who just had lower abdominal surgery able to run around while it took pussy Chris Bosh weeks to come back from a strain? Why is a woman who had lower abdominal surgery on her reproductive organs not have still have white undergarments

I mean, yeah, I mean, like, why is there a plot with stuff, places, more than 2 people...I mean that's a lot of names. And what's up with that story that we have to follow? There some stuff in it and I had to pay attention....that's just dumb. And why is there a rocket ship and what's up with that guy that does that stuff? Ugh, so confusing!

I thought you were kidding so I didn't say anything but it appears you were not. Are you sufficiently thick not to realize I was parodying the attached link?

Why don't you settle down a bit, champ.

I was piling on, I had mine written out, pressed the Preview button, saw yours was posted and I hit submit anyways because I had already taken the time to write it. That and I forgot to take your post out of my quote.

So please, relax.

I enjoyed the movie, but why do movies like this try to add too many characters that dilute the story? As always, 2 hours isn't enough time for you to understand the motivations of all those characters. I failed to see the importance of Charlize Theron to the plot... unless we needed someone to play the Paul Riser role in Aliens.

But I agree with W_Z, against the pantheon of survival space horror, this one does it pretty well.
