So you mean to tell me you have never seen Mr Bean and Kid Cairo in the same room together either?!

An exhibition game determining home field advantage in the WS.

I'll admit that may have been a somewhat silly idea, but if the presidents of the respective leagues have no problem with the All-Star game deciding the home field advantage for their leagues' respective World Series representative, I'm not sure why the fans would object. In any case, I can't really think of a better solution. I suppose they could flip a coin. The ultimate result is no more or less affected by the actual teams in question than was the previous method of alternating home field advantage each year.

I don't think the younger fan appreciates the fact that the two leagues have always been- and still are to a certain degree- separate and distinct entities. And I do realize that the distinction between the leagues has become diminished over time what with the onset of interleague play, the homogenization of the umpiring crews, etc. But the fact remains that baseball is stodgy and staid and the "major leagues" are comprised of two specific and different leagues that each send a champion to this World Series. This is unlike the NBA and NFL that are far less resistant to change and that absorbed lesser and upstart leagues into their established structures.

Perhaps in the future each team will play the same schedule and basing World Series home field advantage on overall best record will make sense. But right now that's far more unfair than basing it upon the outcome of an exhibition game.

No, no, no! Rowan Atkinson, "Mr. Bean", is Gary Bettman! Bud Selig is Jerry Lewis, the original "Nutty Professor"!

Even I gotta admit these stink. Selig looks more like Stephen Hawking .... too bad the wrong person's legs work.

where did the "beating wife" comment come from? i haven't heard about it...did jim rome get accused of beating his wife?

i think rome handled the interview well...i don't think it was necessary to ask "is the fix in?"...he could have phrased it, "do you think it's fair for people to think that there's a fix? because of this and that, etc."

How about the crazy idea of the team with the better regular season record?

And RPB is right. Rome CLEARLY wins this.

This is not to be taken literally. Politicians and trial attorneys will often respond with the wife-beating question when they consider the line of inquiry to be inflammatory. Sort of like answering a baiting, loaded question with another one.

That's great when I have to play the Yankees, Red Sox and, Rays 18 times each and you get Pittsburgh, Houston, and the Cubs.

Still seems like a way better situation than an exhibition game between the two leagues decides it. At least it would be based on a full season instead of one game.

Alternating between AL and NL seemed to work for years.

Yeah, but that's just as random as allowing the All-Star game to decide, maybe less so. Either way, it's not a big deal.
