To me this turned out being a bad thing. The NBA players are such dicks during the olympics. I honestly now root for who ever plays the U.S.A. That 2004 team was an embarrassment of bad personalities. Iverson, Marbury, Wade, Boozer, Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Stoutdemire and Odom. Even Timmy couldnt save that bunch. Go Argentina!!!

They were stacked too, but I am not sure they would have beaten that Croatia team. They were no slouches.

So, what we can take away from this is that costly and bloody civil wars eventually lead to basketball dominance.

It also ushered in the equally bad representation of the us olympic hockey team.

How did one of the most respected assembly of talent lead to the US recruiting a bunch of assholes 12 years later?

This team made the popularity of basketball explode all over the world. It's not their fault some people that came in the league after them were immature.

You DID see Allan Houston out there, Kid

Cant wait to watch this but Ive read everything I could get my hands on about this team so hope there is some new stuff. The practice against the college kids is legend. Remember hearing that years ago.

I wish they had picked Shaq and Isiah in lieu of Mullin and Laettner.

I think it would have been cool if MJ, Scottie, and Isiah put all the rivalry stuff aside for the country (While fully understanding MJ and Scottie's position)

Bagels will hunt you down for that shot at Mullin.

They should have picked Isiah, and then froze him out the entire time in Barcelona

I love that they did not include Isiah. He was a whiney little bitch and did not deserve to be with that group. Besides, Mullin was perfect to go along with all those legends.

There were more than 12 players better than Mullin at the time, as good as he was

Did they have a lefty quota to fill or something?

Isaiah would have been a great coach for that team.

Uh no.

I dunno Ralph. I believe that team was being selected while Dominique was out with his achilles injury. You gotta think that if Nique hadn't been hurt, he likely would've gotten the call ahead of Mullin.

Oh I agree about Dominique. I am not saying there were not better players than Mullin, but to say there were more than 12 is way off.

How many players were on the Dream Team? There were at least that many (minus Laettner).

Right. But they're saying players that weren't picked.

I don't think Mullin was as undeserving as Spark suggests. I think he was an elite forward at that point.

Yeah I am assuming he meant more than 12 better than Mullin who were not on that team.

Mullin was definitely an elite forward at that time.

If healthy Dominique may have been on the team in place of Scottie.

Looking at rosters from the 1991 All Star Game, its tough to find many players better than Mullin.

That's possible even though Pip was already the best forward in the game. Nique was on the decline, but still more popular than Scottie at that point.

I'd say MAYBE you could make the case for Worthy instead of Mullin, but I think Worthy was also battling injuries at that point.

Means exactly what it says.

I meant INCLUDING the Dream Team.

If you're picking the 12 best players, Shaq and Isiah are there.

Maybe Mullin filled a role, thats fine. It worked out

Regardless of what your statment meant, the fact remains that Mullin was an elite forward at that point.

And if you were really wanting the 12 best players that point then Shaq would not be on the team, no college player would be.

The team was picked in September 1991.

Shaq wasn't in the league.

Shaq instead of Laettner

Sweet Sassy Molassy! Cant a guy have an opinion?

I thought Shaq was better than Laettner (I realize Laettner was more accomplished at that point, but Shaq was better)

I think few guys who didnt make the team were better than Mullin

Chill with the feedback, black
we dont need that

So then it wouldn't be the best 12 players.

Shaq instead of Laettner

Laettner was the NCAA player of the year (Didn't he win it two straight years?). It made sense to take him. In hindsight, obviously Shaq would have been the better choice, but Laettner was fine.

You guys are being message board jerks.

They mandated one college player on the team

Under those circumstances, I would have selected Zeke and Shaq
