Had two beers this weekend - one got a thumbs up and the other not so much

Thumbs Up: Founders All Day IPA - This is called a session ale. Lower alcohol (4.7% I believe) but the floral characteristics of an IPA are there. It says 42 IBUs but you can taste the hops in it. Will be a regular in my summer beer rotation.

Thumbs down: Two Brothers Outlaw - This is their first offering in cans. Bought it more out of curiosity rather than reviews. This doesn't get close to being as good as Resistance. It's very sweety and fruity tasting. Some people may enjoy it but lost out on me due to the sweetness.

I had New Holland's Dragon's Milk over the weekend. I wasn't all that impressed. I don't know the proper lingo to give it a review, but it was a little more bitter than I expected....not bad, but didn't live up to my expectations.

The bitter was probably the 10% alcohol that was biting you. It's a really strong beer especially with the addition of the oak barrel flavors.

I thought this was one of their better beers. Very fruity and almost chewy mouthfeel. I thought it was really well balanced. Part of the problem now is that people are expecting IPAs to be hop bombs when they don't need to be.

I need some new IPA's and Red Ale and Stouts

I have some Pinstripe Red Ale, Red Hook IPA, Two Brothers, Three Floyds and Flying Dog in my fridge at the moment.

Lay 'em on me.

I do have to agree with you on your comment above and I know that is my palette. I drink 'infrequently' so when I do I want to be blown away and not just drinking a sipper. Thus, why I didn't care for this. I had this and a Resistance side by side and kept going back to the resistance.

Tried Lagunitas Gnarly Wine last night. Absolutely delicious. It's +10%, but you don't taste it at all. We have one of a handful of kegs in the state at my restaurant. Probably going to kill most of it myself

Outlaw has plenty of malt to balance out the hops, and I find it very easy to drink. It's a nice change of pace from heavy duty hop bombs.

If a hop bomb is right up your alley, then you need to try Sierra Nevada Hoptimum and Central Waters Illumination Double IPA.

Anyone from round where I live ever have Bent River? They just opened second site right down the street from me and I was wondering if it was worth the walk to get a Growler or two? Some of the beers look interesting. I love Pale ales and Oatmeal stouts.

I am gonna try the pale ale and the oatmeal. I was going to eat there but it has bad reviews all over the place.

Chas - the Pale Ale is pretty good. The Jalapeno beer is interesting with a good kick of heat behind it. The Raspberry Wheat is good over the summer. Honestly, the beers overall are pretty good and you won't be disappointed. I think Mondays they have growler refill deals.

Not new, just new to me last night.

Had Rogue Chocolate Stout and was pleasantly surprised. One of the easiset beers to drink.... tastes almost like having like chocolate milk with a bit of booze with it. 8)

In W_Z style......

Also had Left Hand Brewing's Smoke Jumper Imperial Stout the other night.

I think I'm not really that big of a fan of the smoked beers.....just doesn't do much for my palate. It didn't taste bad, just made me wanting more and fell flat, IMO. There was the typical stout taste and feel to it, but I didn't care much for the smoked aroma. I like the smoked aroma coming from food, not beer.

I wouldn't turn it down if offered, but I'm not going out of my way for it again.

I just tried this as well. I thought it was pretty good. Not something I would go to every time but it was a nice drink with my meal.

Where do you go for your good beers, Hank? Nick's on 30 and Main/Taft has some good options....lots of Three Floyds, Founders and Rogue type stuff.

I will absolutely get this. I love me some ruination.

Greg Koch is still a total poser douche but he knows how to sell beer. The last time I saw him he was a bleached tips soul patch guy and now he is a mountain man. This is the first new beer of theirs I have been looking forward to since they parted ways with head brewer Lee years back.

Has anybody had the New Glarus IIPA? It is from the Thumbprint series of beers.

I really enjoyed their Organic Revolution and Imperial IPA. Thinking about making a run for the border to pick some up.

As far as liquor stores, NIcks has a good selection. There is a place on Summit in CP (Liquor Stockhouse?) near the BW3 that did have a pretty good selection as well but I havent been there in a while.

For bars, Passtimes in Valpo has a good variety. Beer Geeks in Highland also has a lot of good stuff.

Yep....also Dellocks in Dyer and Munster have a fairly decent selection, especially the one in Munster.

And The Bullpen on Rt. 30 Schererville now serves Zombie Dust on tap.

If you do cross the cheese curtain, look for any of the Tyranena product that we can't get here.

Saw some of Crown Brewery's stuff at the local Dellocks and purchased a bomber.

They had to keep it refrigerated since it's not filtered or bottle conditioned or anything like that.

I've never been to their brewery, but I had their Crown Imperial Stout....not bad. Not even close to Founder's KBS or anything like that, but it was decent. I wanted to get their Special Forces IPA, but they sold out quick as someone had bought a case the day before.

By the way, what beer reviews do you guys watch on youtube? Chadz Beer Review? His open music gets stuck in my head. Beer Geek Nation with Chris Steltz? Pretty good one...there are tons out there, but I think Chris does the best one. There's also Greg's Beer Review. He's looks like a Harley guy from the south, but I can appreciate his for a change of pace.....I feel like I'm sitting down with Uncle Jesse from The Dukes.

Motörhead Launch Their Own Beer
Russell Hall|06.13.2012
Motörhead have added their own beer brand to their burgeoning empire. Having scored a huge success a year ago with the launch of their own red wine, Motörhead Shiraz, the punk metal icons are now offering “a real rock beer” dubbed Bastards Lager.

According to the brand’s official website, “Motörhead Bastards Lager is a beer with a lot of attitude – making it the perfect thirst-quencher at the summer’s festivals or on the beach with a Motörhead track coming through your headphones at high volume. A recommendation is to drink Bastards Lager well-chilled together with juicy, freshly-grilled burgers on a summer’s evening. The Bastards bottle is easily recognizable, adorned as it is with the Motörhead logo.”

The brew is being made by the Swedish brewery, Krönleins, and can be purchased by the case via the Swedish state liquor shop, Systembolaget. Unfortunately however, “at this moment” the beer is available “only for the Swedish market.”

Pick up some Lammsbrau from Binny's and pour it into a glass for them but don't tell them it isn't Bud or Miller. After they taste it and realize what a good lager tastes like they may change their tune.
