Theo Epstein and friends are currently responsible for building three last place teams. Has that ever happened before?

JORR,

this fact has not been lost on me. All this does is put much more pressure on these guys.

The part of this whole thing that is really interesting is Boston pissed and looked for something when Theo left and SD basically let Jed walk out the door?

When one team lets a guy walk with no interest, you need to really look at why.

i joined nashova's fantasy league last year. it was decided that there would be 14 keepers after last season, my team was shit, so i decided to go scorched earth and enact a 3 year plan to build a dynasty. i was laughed at.

now i've got mike trout brett lawrie stephen strasburg madison bumgarner craig kimbrel, jeremy hellickson, migcab, dayan viciedo, jesus montero, and oh yeah even anthony rizzo for shits and giggles.

clearly, i'm a better GM than theo epstein and i should be running the damn cubs. otherwise, how can people say that the cubs need a scorched earth run and then get pissed when they're in last place? the darkest days come right before the light.

Questions for those critical of the current Cubs front office:

Would you prefer Hendry? Also, if not Theo then who was a better option? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm asking a legit question. Was there a better option out there than Theo?

I'll hang up and listen for my answer.

I don't understand why when some GMs lose in the playoffs, the conventional wisdom is "they did a great job, the playoffs are a crapshoot", but when others lose in the playoffs they are no-good bums.

They don't even have to make the playoffs for them to have done a great job. Sometimes GMs do a great job and put a great team on the field and the team just collapses.

How can a great team collapse though? Doesn't the fact that it collapsed, by definition, mean it wasn't a great team? It seems like Hendry is regarded as a bum even though he built the best team in the NL and got beat in the playoff crapshoot. Can't do anything about that. It's just bad luck. Right? Or are the playoffs only a "crapshoot" when that suits the argument?

Sox fans talking about the Cubs and not worrying about their own 1st place team. Shocker. Not that I can blame them. Who the fuck wants to talk about the Sox anyways regardless of their success.

I look at this thread as more of a general baseball discussion than a Sox/Cubs thing.

I agree with you. I was mocking the Theophiles who said that pretty much verbatim about the 2011 Red Sox.
